Fireball, as far as I recall, was a QUANTUM line of drives. Looks like a rebagger to me. Am I wrong, though?

Why are you guys so concerned if it's a Quantum or not? Maxtor provides the same 3-year warrenty on all Quantum drives. And Quantum drives runs quieter IMHO.

All the OD in houston can't print the rebate on today. They will give instant rebate. Time to pick some free after rebate staff!

maxtor's drive have alway sucked in the past, thought I bought dozen of them i dispiesed them the most. They were slowest next to connor's line of drive. they ran at 4475 rpm and when benchmarked the performance was like 50 percent slower then quantum's fireball series. also majority of my maxtor developed bad sectors or just died after a few month of usuage, talk about unrealibility. some also bragged about how good the fujitsu drives were but now they fallen much behind. Samsung as far as I know has the same reputation as maxtor, not bad but not great either. anyway I was referring to the year 95-97, thing have changed much. some got better other did not.

Maxtor and Quantum are both good. I have a 5 year old Maxtor 6 gig and a 1.5 year old 20 gig still running strong. I just picked up this 30 gig Sat. and I expect it will last far longer than I willl use it wether it is a Maxtor or Quantum. IBM is best no doubt, and I'd put Maxtor second. For $40 you can't beat this deal.

Well, I bought the Maxtor 30GB HD 7200 on Black Friday at B&M OD. Unfortunately, I tried to buy it online the day before with a $30 off coupon and pick it up in the store to get the rebate. Unfortunately, the e-mail link was broken. Since the manager couldn't confirm anything or print out my rebate she aske me to return today.

Well, I got the Maxtor with a $30 off coupon AND got the rebate printed out at the register ($99.95 - $30 coupon - $30mir = $39.95 final). It states "VALID 11-22-01 THROUGH 11-30-01".

So, maybe you have a second chance with the rebate.

I,d sure like to know where Gaspath got his rebate, I looked and looked at my copy and it doesn,t say that..The sale ran to 11-30...Says receit must be dated 11-22 to 30 and mailed by 12-7-01...
