The v2-400 speakers were ~$250 but it seems as of late Klipsch ran out of them. They also started producing the ProMedia 4.1 speakers which are essentially the v2-400 with new features the customer feedback stated.

It has a on/off switch, headphone jacks, etc.

For the owners of the v2-400 who want all these features, you can upgrade with a ProMedia CP-1: Control Pod Preamplifier for $49.99.

The Boston Acoustics I have now are pretty sweet, so I'll hold off on upgrading for now.

The Klipsch speakers produce the best sound.
I heard this from a friend that if you buy a set they'll throw in a free CDRW 4x4x24.

I haven't seen this promotion everywhere, but it's probably only from one specific vendor. If you find out who it is, you should post it as a separate hot deal for those interested.

I have a set V2-400 promedias and they kick ass! I use them as my home theater to watch my dvds. For some reason, my surrounds don't work...or at least, very little sound comes from them.

Does anyone know if the pre-amp module will convert the v2-400 exactlty into the new 4.1? I will definitely pick one up if it helps with the midrange cuz I do find that it lacks in that area.

The new pre-amp module only adds a Headphone jack, an input jack (for MP3 players etc), and an On/Off switch. It doesn't do anything for the crossovers, which is contained inside the amplifier (which is in the subwoofer) ... If you really want the new crossover, you'll need to buy the new 4.1's (might want to fleabay your old v2-400's and see if you can get $200+ for them, and then pickup the 4.1's)

Old satellite used in v2.400 with old crossover
New speaker used in 2.1 and 4.1 system with new, improved crossover

To expand on what Liqice said, the new price of $300 reflects the price of the new system, with the new CP-1 preamp (headphones, aux, on/off), and the improved crossover network. I have one of the original pairs of v2.400 systems, and I am thinking about buying the new CP-1 Preamp for $50. It supposedly enhances channel separation, produces less noise, and has a better feel in the knobs. But I want those crossovers! :|

Looks like they have included an air choke in that crossover, that system might actually sound decent for multimedia speakers. As far as the original 4.1's, i didn't really care for them, due to the overpowering sound of the horn tweeter. It still doesn't solve the problem of that overly powerful muddy subwoofer though.

I just ordered the new cp-1 preamp for my klipsh pro medias. The pots are higher quality and there's a speaker on/off switch (doesn't turn the power off, it just puts the speakers into standby). I just bought it cause I want to see if it improves the high-gain hiss but mostly cause it's new. The new 4.1 set does have new crossovers but they're in the speakers themselves, not just in the woofer. I hope they make those available for upgrading.

I wonder if they might provide the crossover upgrades. Doesn't look to hard to put into the speakers. I may just go ahead and pick up the CP-1 module anyways since I am tired of having to switch the connections between my dvd and cd players. The on/off would help loads too!

I have the Klipsch Promedia 2.1's, very nice speakers. The bass doesn't hold up quite as well as what I have read on the Internet, most of which claimed bass that would disturb your neighbors.. But all in all an excellent buy. For some reason the sub just can't handle "The next episode" by Dre. Anyone know why?

I should also say that I got them from Vanns.com for $180 about two months ago. They arrived fairly quickly, but that is probably because I live in Iowa and Vanns is out of Montana. I looked around and at the time this was easily the best price, (not to mention one of the few places I could even find it for sale).

If my walls weren't so thin and didn't have bitchy neighbors, I'd probably upgrade my $4 Altec-Lansing ACS33 system from compgeeks.

this is a great system... klipsch makes awesome speaker systems. my roommate has the promedia 4.1 system, and every time he plays counterstrike, the neighbors come over to tell us to turn it down. =)

otis, you shouldn't be having that problem at all... maybe you have your audio settings all too high and your equalizer really high and the preamp high. put your audio settings at 50% for the best sound and adjust your equalizer accordingly... it should handle the bass in that song EASILY at high levels... or maybe you have a really bad soundcard.

what do you guys think of ubid.com, cuz i've been lookin there for a while, and i'm a little suspicious of why their products are soooooo cheap, i know some are used and refurbished, but even the new things are so dang cheap...how? Like you could get a good jvc or pioneer receiver/hometheater system with 5 spks and 1 sub for like 300 or 400, and it's good! how do they do this, would ne one care to give me advice or their opinion on ordering from ubid.com, thanx in advance!

I'm just repeating what s/b else said, but apparently some products there do *not* have warranties.
