Those that ordered or have the AverTV Studio, could you please tell me if it has the 878 chip on it to work with DScaler, this looks like it might be a better deal for me.
Also, on the Intel site, it says:
"Additional features include Still Image Capture at resolutions up to 1600 x 1200 and a 16 Channel Preview so you can see what's playing on different channels. It supports Coax, Composite and S-Video Inputs and NTSC, PAL or SECAM Standards. The AVerTV Studio is a Full Package Entertainment Solution for your home computer."
When you set it up, can you really select NTSC or PAL with the setup, unlike most cards that it's in the bios and the tuning standard cannot be selected?
Any word on if this one works with SnapStream?
Thanks...

Here's somemore specs on it:

I am using the AverTV Stereo now. It was the least expensive and works just as well as the others that are XP compatible. It does use the 878 (versus the 848) chip. Quality is very good. Overall I'm happy with it.

Keep in mind. It looks like all of the XP certified drivers can only capture upto 240 horizontal lines of video. I did, however, find some software called "iuvcr." With this program (and the AverTV card), it looks like you can capture over 240 lines. It might be that it only stretches the 240 lines to 480 which doesn't really help much. Don't really know. Regardless, iuvcr is a great program and can be found at iulabs.com.

The VCR function on the aver works nice, unless you want to write the file to a VCD. When I tried to write a VCD, the video is nice, but the sound is all messed up (fades out).

<< people, is the tuner on this card stereo or mono?
The web site only says fm stereo, and the review doesn't mention stereo tv broadcasts...
>>

I got my card last week. I don't think the tv broadcasts are in stereo. It sure doesn't sound like it anyway. FM broadcasts clearly sound like stereo however. Go figure.

Has anyone with a Radeon card gotten the TV Tuner video reception to work on either Avermedia or Leadtek?

Avermedia
12. Which type of video cards are not compatible with the AVerTV tuner card?
Trident, ATI Radeon, Cirrus Logic, and some SIS video cards.

How well does this card capture MPEG2? I'm really looking for a good card to SVCD some of the shows I watch.

Here is another review of the card. Review
I bought one but I haven't yet installed it (I just like to buy cool gadgets....it's a sickness). The review doesn't mention anything about a stereo tv tuner either, unfortunately. Not that it really matters anymore since I have it now, but can anyone absolutely confirm or deny that it outputs TV in stereo? Once I get it in I'm going to do a capture of the tv audio and look at it on Goldwave or something to see if the two channels differ.....although listening might work too .

I'm told the TV tuner on this card can definitely only receive mono broadcasts, making it virtually useless for me. Mono outputs the same sound in both speakers. Stereo makes a world of difference. Should be able to tell quite easily by listening. Mono tends to have no spaciousness at all, and very poor frequency response.

Well I got mine and it's pretty nice, I only need it for video capture, but sound is also very important. So here's what I figured out for us 2000/XP users, the audio/line in on the 2000XP does not work, if you check out the driver disk there are no audio drivers whatsoever. I've also checked the drivers online that are supposed to be updated well they are not, they aren't any better than the current drivers shipping with the card. Oh well hopefully they will fix it soon.

More importantly people there is an easy fix, if you have a sounblaster live then you should have an RCA-miniplug adapter this is the key to clear audio. Simply hook the RCA portion up to your sound source then plug a male/male miniplug into the adapter and then into the line in of your respective vid card. This WILL give you cleaner audio but there are some problems, first your line in may be muted so chek that, if it is not muted whenever you turn your audio source on it will play through you desktop speakers, so this is what I have done to get good audio.

Pull up the PlayControl sound mixer and set your line in too full and your main volume to your desired setting so you don't blast your ears, then bring up the WinFast TV prog. and set your record level to 100, then record. When your done mute your line-in and continue on your merry way. Before anyone who has this card might try and jump all over me I am going to provide a vid clip if you ask I can send it to you so you can hear the much clearer audio. I do understand some of you need proof before you'll go out and spend those precious dollars Anyway my email is markamoros@attbi.com

:edit: I just wanted to add after double checking once you set the line-in to 100% in the sound mixer/PlayControl then whenever you enter/exit out of the winfast TV prog. the line-in will be muted accordingly...that makes this that much easier.

Interesting "Round~About" S13SilviaK Thanks

I haven't played with mine too much since installing but the recorded sound is HORRIBLE (very bad hissing).

Will give this a shot.

<< When you guys get the cards, can you please post some user reviews on them? Especially people that have used other TV cards before. (Like ATI, Hauppauge, Pinnacle, etc) >>

Agreed. I'm surprised that web reviews on standalone tv cards are virtually non-existent.

I don't think people know this but if you have a cable hook-up where the Tv feature can change the channel there is a TIVO like feature, it's actually pretty easy to use if you know what channel you want to record just put in the start/stop ties, the channel and your set.

Anyone with the averTV studio use a radeon8500? I read somewhere that it doesnt work with the radeon chips but it seems so similar to this leadtek card which appears to work with the radeon.

Had to wait till I get cheap RG6 (RF coaxial) cables to hookup my cable (all my previous capture - was of the output from ReplayTV through S-video). I got my cables from here. Anyway, just a note - default setting for the tuner region is "USA"- that found only 2 channels on my cable, it found all of them, when I chose something like "USA HIC" , dont remember exactly, what was the spelling, thought I'll share that, it might be something trivial, though. Seems like the sound issue for Winfast card is solved for me through lower source sound level, that removed the hissing and now seems to work fine. The other issue was crashing of soundcard drivers for my MX300, I traced it back to playback of recorded shows on Winfast software. When I use windows media player instead, it doesn't cause any problems. So I only record on Winfast.
Winfast does not have Tivo like features - like automatic downloading programming guide and scheduling recordings of the stuff Tivo thinks you would like to watch. Winfast is your regular PVR card- it is like a VCR whcih records what you want, when you tell it to, except it does so on your hard drive.

i bought the same card and i really like it a lot considering it's my first tv card.

i have a question about recording programs. can you leave the winfast program off and will it still record?? i tried recording something the other day but it didn't record when i turned it off so i just left it on when i went out. does it not work like a vcr where you can power it off???

TIA!

A month ago I bought an ATI TV Wonder for my WinME computer and it wouldn't work at all. It would just crash when I tried installing the software. I returned it and just recently bought the TV2000XP. So far it works fine on my Win98 Computer (which the ATI did also) but will install it into my WinME computer in a few days to check. The quality seems a little better than the ATI. The radio feature is cool too and they give you a nice long reception cable so that your computer won't interfere with the signal. I'm pretty sure the TV is MONO, unlike the ATI. I just want to use it to record TV shows so that I can watch them later. If this can record 2 channels at the same time and work under WinME I'll be very happy. I will try recording 2 channels at the same time and tell you all my progress.

One thing I forgot to mention is that when I tried using the 2000XP on my Win98 computer, the colors of the TV would get all messed up (like it got inverted) when I tried using captions. It might just be the video card, though, a Matrox G300 DualHead

You might want to check local computer stores first. I got a new WinTV Theater for $45. It doesn't encode MPEG but its great for watching TV and it's 100% XP compatible. The other advantage of WinTV cards is that there is descrambler software readily available so you can get all channels w/o paying for one of those boxes.

Bought the card- bought Power VCR. Selling anything?.. I'll buy it! (not serious)

Playback sound quality is unlistenable ie.: Hisssssssssssssssssssssssssssss.

I think sound was better with my Audigy card, but I just changed motherboards (what a surprise) so now using onboard C-Media 8738 audio controller through ONLY 2 channels.

Always had noise from card on boot but starting Winfast 2000 XP and shutting it down alleviated the problem. Same situation with current setup, but playback distortion is unbearable now!-Live broadcast is acceptable... actually pretty good.

Got to be the sound drivers it installs- or my recording parameters. Any suggestions on how to set up audio codecs for recording MPEG-1 or 2? It seems like I tried them all.

What is the BEST all-purpose card for broadcast display and Tivo-like recording capabilities?

By the way, I'm using the red-headed stepchild of video cards- Matrox G450 DH with WinXP.
