My $339.08 - G580 - i5-3210M - Win8 - 8GB - 1TB HD.

I saw a G580 with i5-3230M/4GB/500gb for $298.00

I could have probably held out and kept checking for cheaper but for $339.08 for an i5/8G/1TB that I believe can be upgraded to 32gig in the future Im done for a while.

This was around 3pm yesterday it seems its luck of the draw and just happens through the day. There is a doorbuster link at the top but I stumbled upon mine by selecting sort by price and i5 for CPU. I found the second one by going to doorbusters and sorting on price. It just luck.

Some doorbusters are personally not true doorbusters but just keep refreshing every hour or so and you might get lucky.

If you see one add it to your cart then think about if its a real deal. I hesitated on one and by the time I refreshed it was gone. Was a 16gig unit for $343.00 as I recall.

I also found that IE does a better job at page refreshes while Firefox seems to cache older pages. Not sure why but just an observation.

Agreed. Chrome is not very good on their page either.

Anyone seeing Pentium and getting put off the newer Pentiums are Sandy/Ivy bridges at the core and make for great processors.

My Lenovo showed up today nicely packed and wrapped but missing the battery. Not much of a laptop without the battery. I called customer service and they say its the first time that has ever happened? Lucky me. The seals were in place so its not the carrier it had to leave the factory that way. Now Im waiting for someone to call me back on what they are able to do about it. It works without the battery but portability might be an option without one. Not planning on going anywhere soon but I hope they can get it to me quickly.

Its refurbished with only a minor blemish in the plastic that I might be able to buff out but I dont care to. This is nice.

I heard nothing from Lenovo about my battery after the rep said they would call or e-mail me back so I called again this morning and the rep I talked to today said there is nothing in the notes about this at all. So again someone is going to supposedly send this over to the warehouse to ship me the battery for my laptop and I should hear back from someone by the end of today.

Im in a company full of lenovo products maybe its time I started suggesting we switch vendors.

What model did you get and for what price? I am on the fence on whether i should return my N580 as it really seems BARE BONES compared to my former bargain laptop that I got from thread in this forum a few years ago the Compaq CQ-62-225NR. I can't get used to the left handed touchpad all the way off center like that is and my OCD demand s it to be in the center of the laptop like almost every other laptop I have ever seen (why would Lenovo think this is a plus???) The Windows 8 charms bar is always getting in the way due to the touchpad, and there is no MUTE button on the laptop? I could have lived without a camera built in but I prefer having a dedicated MUTE button. Also the directional arrow keys are not where I expect them to be and the number pad while at one time I would have liked it, I have gone years without one and don't really need a number pad. Also the delete, backspace and home, end, page up and page down keys are all in oddly non-logical placed areas.

I got a family member a Z580 as well and while it is nicer than the N580, it still had the same issues I listed above except it does have a mute button. I've had to do a system restore on that model as that came used. Does anyone know which F-key (a youtube video said F11) to access the system restore to factory specs key during bootup? I know the one touch restore key will do this, but was hoping there was a quicker way during bootup to access this.

their support or customer service does suck. I called after looking through the online manual for a MUTE button and after 10 minutes on hold she also could not find a MUTE button either. Also she was no help on figuring a way to disable the charms bar, (this is after Classic Shell was installed to add the start button and to disable the metro start screen). I actually was testing the customer service rep as I had already found a registry hack (that actually works!) to disable the charms bar from hours of poring through Google searches, and the only help the customer service rep mentioned was to get used to it?

Why should Lenovo be expected to give you Windows 8 advanced customization tips?

I'd consider that wasting support's time, it's a Microsoft question not a Lenovo laptop question.

because within the Synaptics touchpad driver there is supposed to be a setting to disable touch swipe and on the Lenovo drivers there is no such setting. On other OEM laptops they use a Synaptics driver that does have this option.

I picked up one of the Z580's with Win 8 for my son and it's pretty nice. It came in a box with zero documentation and zero disks. I'm curious - any thoughts on how I find out the Win8 license number in the event I want/need to reload the OS?

Assuming you have an OEM disc yes. When I tried to use an Upgrade disk it didn't like it so much and it would tell me the key is invalid.

So I got a hold of a manager yesterday and she was very nice and understanding. Ive only talked to a few customer service managers and she was by far the most polite and informative managers I had spoken to. She found all my info including the first reps comments that the second rep could not and did a great job explaining the process and that it would realistically take 5-7 days for a battery to arrive and that was an overestimate to ensure that they deliver ahead of time. I can deal with the truth especially in the way explained. Excellent customer skills.

Luckily for now it does work with the power cord and I can start loading my most needed apps.

I can see why she was a manager very professional and understanding and providing realistic expectations and communication.

Fingers crossed Ill be good before next weekend. I suspect I will.
