I read about these guys in the DT news and saw that they were selling these routers for $25 with their firmware already flashed on them. Assuming you can reflash to the old firmware link you can get this router for cheap.

Anyway, just wanted to point this out to anyone looking to get a wireless G router cheap.

EDIT: Here's the \\LINK// to the site.

That is really Hot deal if it's indeed 25. I got my v4 which is same as GL 2 months ago for 40 at BB AR. It's been running itself straight for 2 months, not even a hickup. Of course falshed to HyperWRT+Tufo firmware.

Guessing from the time he posted, he is in england. $25 is probably 25 pounds which is about 50 US dollars plus shipping from europe and their high tax rate. Less than warm, stone cold more like.

No, On the web site is clearly states 25 USD. Besides, they are in Spain so it would be Euro's if not Dolars.

Sorry here's the like for those that don't want to dig through DT to find it. \\LINK//

And it looks to be 25 euro or 25 dollars depending on where you live. Haven't heard anything back on the shipping and VAT/sales tax that they mention in their mysterious email.

Thanks OP.

Got the same confirmation e-mail.

Google, Skype and other big companies invested over 21 million in FON. This should be very promising.

I'm in for one. OP should update the OP with the link though.

Some funniness from the Fon.com FAQ:
Linus? Bill? Alien? Which one of these profiles will best suit me?
In the future, you will be able to register with any of these three profiles, and your decision will depend on your own personal needs. But, for the present, let us remind you that FON is in an experimental Beta phase and is only available for Linus. A Linus is any user who shares his/her WiFi in exchange for free access throughout the Community wherever there is coverage. A Bill is a user who, instead of roaming for free, prefers to receive 50% of the fees that FON charges to Aliens. And Aliens are those users who do not share their WiFi access and therefore must pay FON a modest fee every time they connect through a Fonero access point.

With a quick firware flash though, you'll be able to stop that I believe and I don't think there's a damn thing they can do about it (unless they make you sign a contract.)

Has anyone purchased this Linksys router from this "FON" outfit? Were you able to reflash to the factory or another firmware? Also how much is shipping in the US?

TIA

Has anyone heard back from FON yet? They said they'd send me another email with details of the order but still nothing hear.... This might not be a deal if they don't actually sell these things.

@furballi: Not to my knowledge, but it should be a simple matter. I doubt their firmware can't be reflashed to old one if someone opts out of their service.

Got my confirmation email today. Routers are available for purchase.

Congratulations!

Now you can purchase your FON Ready Router. We confirm that you have reserved the router through the FON website for 25? / $25 (plus sales tax and shipping). Let us remind you that in order to make the final purchase of this router, you must first register as a Fonero, if you have not done so already.

By taking advantage of this Special Offer, you agree to the conditions of this offer. You will also be required to register your access point once you have received the router. If you have any questions or doubts with regards to installing the router or registering your access point, please visit the Manuals section on our website or read the instructions that accompany the router.

To complete this process and purchase your FON Ready router, click PURCHASE and enter the FON Shop to make your payment. You must make your payment by Friday, February 26, 2006 in order to enjoy this Special Offer. After that date, this 25? / $25 offer will no longer be valid.

PURCHASE

Important: To get your FON Ready router up and running, you do NOT need to download our Software. The router has already been configured with FON Software.

Because of the massive demand for FON Ready Routers, please note that depending on your location, you should expect a 2-3 weeks delivery time from the time you have made the payment for the router.

Thank you for actively joining the FON Movement,
FON
