PC Club has the Liteon Lvd-2001 set-top dvd player for $150(Price raised)
AllThingsTech.com has it for $127.15 (Thanks Apex for the link!)

Specs

Ebay has been selling them for $170+ Retail price is $199

Plays all media formats, dvd-r/-rw/+r/+rw, cd-r/rw
Plays most media formats: Divx 3.11+, Xvid, mpg, dvd, vcd, mp3
(doesn't play Realmedia, has problems playing many divx files, has problems with some divx audio formats, couldn't play any of my uncompressed avi files)

Progressive scanning, firmware easily upgradable, region and macrovision can be easily removed with remote.

I received mine a while ago. Unless you really need a dvd player with these capabilities, I suggest you wait. The latest firmware still leaves lots of problems with playing divx movies and there are many other small problems. It's definitely not as good as a real DVD player for the same price (if you don't use divx/xvid)

This is a nice find. I'd get it just for divx playback!..well maybe.

Anybody know if there are any other set top divx players?

there a nice review here which pretty much sold me on this thing. ive been wanting to upgrade from my old apex and i might finally have to do it. the apex plays almost everything, but it handles dark scenes poorly and lacks progressive scan.

edit: beat to the same review

Sweet.. jesus... That's all i can say!

I was going to get an xbox and mod it and use that as my media station, but I think we have a new winner. I looked it up on google, it plays divx and xvid (divx 3.11 through 5), svcd, vcd, has a compact flash slot for digital camera pictures, firmware upgradeable, you can make it region free/macrovision free, it uses a basic lite-on dvd drive so you can replace the drive if it breaks, optical audio out, progressive scan (yeah, thats right). It's really a brilliant player.

All for 140 dollars.. I know it'll be available for 100 dollars in like a month, but I can't wait.

Decisions, decisions. I had just about talked myself into buying a Sony NS725P. Divx and avi playback is a nice feature but so often downloaded files of these types have dropped frames or otherwise corrupted segments. Now if there were reasonbly priced websites where you could pay to download movies that were on their servers and not peer to peer or uploaded to newsgroups then they might have a service worth paying to use. Of course if you're vreating your own divx files that's different. I'm holding out for a little while in hopes of seeing players that support Sanyo's new HD BURN. Meanwhile if someone would like to give me an Onkyo DVSP800 I'll take it. I'll be adding Lite-On's player to my list to consider. Thanks for posting about this player.

 OMG, gotta figure out how to rationalize this one to the Mrs. Let's see, which of the three players needs replacing?

"what happens if a newer version of the divx codec is used.. say 5.09... would this thing play it back?"

"firmware easily upgradable" So there's your answer.

Why didn't they use the LTD-166 intsead of the 163? I guess they must have had a lot of the 163's laying around. Even though being able to replace the optical drive for $32 (current lowest PW price) is a big plus, something far better would probably be out by the time you needed to. But for someone who has burned a lot of DVD discs that were incompatible with their player this would be the one to get. My LTD-166 DVD ROM will play anything and everything.

According to the review posted above all that is needed is a firmware update that takes 5 minutes and viola you have divx 5.+ compatability

i'm too lazy to read those reviews, so someone wanna tell me how the progressive output is? The last progressive scan dvd player I had didn't look as nice on my 53" hdtv as my previous roommate's panasonic.

how long before hacked firmwares to play MOV and WMV?
muahhaha

ill wait a month for some feedback from regular people, and hopefully price will drop under 100, then ill buy this. since it deals with codecs, it might need some time to mature their firmware anyways.
