You buy the Gateway 700XL or 600XL, and get a Gateway 300s value for free

The 700xl Desktop is a P4 3.06/512 RDRAM/2x200 gig HD/DVD-RAM\DVD-R drive/48x24x48 CDRW/19" LCD/ etc.

The 600xl Laptop is a P4 2.2-M/512 DDR/60 gig/24x10x24 CDRW and 8x DVD

The 300s desktop is a Celeron 2.0/128 DDR/40 gig/48x24x48 CDRW/ no monitor

So basically, if you were planning on buying a new top of the line Gateway anyway, now you get a free computer with it

Hope someone benifits from this

Josh

The way Dell is making money Gateway has to do something to prevent getting overwhelmed.

That was my underlying point.

Dell is the Microsoft of the OEM market.

Dell made no bones about it on the tech downturn, they were going out to destroy the competition (gateway). I checked some gateway prices recently for some digicams and with the outdated/overpriced items they had their, I think gateway is trying to destroy themselves.

Personally (not to get too far off the topic), I think Gateway kicked themselves in the butt the moment they opened a Gateway Country Store........... Instant Sales tax for everyone whey you buy a Gateway (well at least if you have a Gateway Contry Store in your state). Dell on the other hand for all home purchases, no tax unless you live in Texas.

I went to my local Gateway store last weekend, looking at their 300 series. Looking for a nice, but not full of latest equipment PC for my daughter. The 300 series was around 599.00 I think, and it is NOT upgradeable. It has 128meg RAM which I would have wanted to upgrade. No dice.

No way was I spending 600 on a non-upgradeable PC.

Going to end up at Costco for their emachine 1.6 gig, 256 meg, cd-rw, dvd, 40gig, 17in monitor for 650.00 no rebates. I dont want to lay out 900.00 and have to wait for rebates (BB has similar emachine for 650 with rebates)

You won't get a dell for much cheaper than this, if at all. This has a 19" lcd, a 3.06p4, 2x200gb hd's, dvd/cd writer, and 512mb 1066 rdram. I did a quick config on dell and it was just as much...I didn't try to match all specs tho, but that was even with only 1 200gb drive. The dell I looked at was the home/homeoffice 8000 something config.

God I hate bad facts.

the 300 series from Gateway IS UPGRADABLE.

It doesnt have a agp slot, BUT you can upgrade memory and the hard drive. For $50 more you can also make the mini tower a mid tower so you can throw a PCI video card in or sound card...Its not a bad PC for $499, ($399 after rebate, no monitor) But, of course I dont buy cheap crap, You get what you pay for.

I have 2 New Gateway desktops, and 2 Gateway laptops in my house, all purring nicely..

As for Dell, dont even get me started, my DRU-500A still isnt shipped and now there saying January 15... Funny how dell doesnt even list the sony drives on their website anymore, funny how this is my third order from dell and ALL 3 ORDERS I HAVE NEVER RECIEVED.. looks like another cancel my order call.

I have a grudge against Gateway. A while back, they were offering a clearance price of $10 for each of their 5gb PCMCIA HD's for laptops. Their retail price was like $200 each but the rebates brought the price down to $10 each. So I placed an order for 3 of them and my order got cancelled the very next day because they said the units were out of stock even though their website clearly mentioned they still had stock left. Their customer service dept. was very rude and unprofessional. Needless to say, they screwed me over and I was pissed at them ever since and vowed never to do business with them again. Dell's customer service is getting pretty bad too now, but it's nowhere as bad as Gateway's is IMO.

Dude, it was a $200 drive that had rebates to make the final price $10. And it's not the lack of HDs that pissed me off, it's the company itself and their relations with customers. THeir rules also state that they are obligated to substitute this with a similar product if the supply runs out, but they said that since many people jumped on the deal, they weren't gonna honor their promise. All in all, a very bad experience with Gateway.

Funny....we've all most likely had to wait for OOS stuff to become in stock. I guess if you are too impatient, call. Since you said "...another cancel my order call.", that's maybe why you never receive anything. Cancel and it never delivers.

I've ordered over a dozen computers and many, many parts from Dell......had to wait a bit for some of the popular parts, but I've always had the part delivered. Of course, I didn't call to cancel, then blast Dell for not delivering after I cancel.
