If your movie gets lost in the mail, you are not held liable. We had a couple of envelope tabs show up in our mailbox without a disc or sleeve around Christmas. We just reported the incident on Blockbuster's website and a new copy was sent out.

My credit card was charged for a movie lost in the mail even after I had reported a delay in the return shipment (5 days or so). I had to email and call blockbuster for two weeks with no resolution. Disputed the charge with my credit card, and they finally credited it. I got an auto email sent about six months later, when I was no longer a customer of blockbuster, that announced that they had received the disc.

They may have a policy of only believing you if the loss happens on the initial shipment, and not the return shipment.

I've had two lost with Netflix in the past, and there was never a problem. I do not remember which direction they were going when they were lost.

I'm very happy with Netflix. I do 20 movies a month average on a 3-at-a-time plan.
When I tried canceling my account I get a page which asks to accept the terms of cancelation and states that cancelation will be effective immediatelly as soon as I press Complete Cancelation. Is the deal page after this one or is there something wrong with my account?

When I cancled my Netflix trial, they emailed me the next day offering to extend it another two weeks for free. Maybe they'll send you an email after you actually cancle?

Even if you don't get the email, you'll still reset your status with Netflix so they should start sending you movies faster if you were getting delayed on purpose before

Sounds like not everyone is getting the message so if you don't get the offer, I apologize.

I have a question about the 2 free in-store rentals...I heard they got rid of late fees in store. So does this mean I can keep my movies 2 weeks or longer? I'm asking because they shut down the blockbuster in my town and I only use blockbuster when I vist my grandma which is once every 2 weeks. Will I ever get charged for a late fee?

Go to their website, if I read it correctly that no late fees is just a bunch of BS. It's strictly if you use their movie or game pass. In other words, regular rentals are still due on their regular times.

I signed up for the 4 week free trial at Blockbuster and so far I am not impressed. They emailed me on Monday the 17th and said they shipped the three movies I had in my que. I received two today (3 days) and the third isn't here, so that will be at least 4 days for that third movie. I still have Netflix. I have been a member over 2 years, and 90% of the time I get two day turn around. I shipped them 3 movies back on Monday, they receive them Tuesday and shipped three out the same day and I receive them Wednesday. If I ship those three out Thursday, I'll generally get three more on Saturdays delivery. 6 movies a week is the norm for me.

I can't complain since the trial is free but if this is the norm for Blockbuster in the Bay area, I'll be cancelling in around three weeks.

Blockbuster's karma is coming back to haunt it in the form of the USPS. Good for them.

I've had virtually no trouble with NetFlix, and I often wonder how they can turn around movies so fast given they are dealing with USPS. Their distribution center is about 100 miles away from me, and I have a less than 2 day turn around time. Mail goes out with a DVD I watched on say a Monday afternoon, and by Wed morning (or afternoon depending on when the mailman arrives), I have a new DVD. I love it!

Yay NetFlix!!!!

\I am in SF East Bay and my movies come out of Sacramento with a two day turnaround. I love blockbuster. I have three out and always have at least four movies in transit, in my hands, or in transit back. I have seen it as high as six. This is due to Blockbuster working with the USPS to determine when I am sending a movie back. The USPS notifies then Blockbuster sends the next available movie in the queue. The B&M coupons are icing on the cake. Netflix is good for selection and I usually go for the little guy, but Blockbuster is working for me.

I have yet to see this thing about "working with the USPS". Once they receive them they send out the next movies to me. I've never had that multiple "movies in transir" in my time with Blockbuster's service.

There had been instances when Blockbuster send new movies before they received my old ones. I am not sure if this is an emailing trick or if they really ship it when USPS gets it, but it has happened.

I live in NYC (Queens), and I feel the turnaround time to be same as NFLX, altho I have received 3 completely broken DVDs (not scratched, but cracked) in the first months from Blockbuster. All anime titles. I hope this doesn't continue.

Well, I for one won't be a part of that. I just hope NetFlix can hold on long enough and their are enough loyal customers like myself pissed off enough at BB for years of abuse, such that Blockbuster will begin to understand the pain of REAL competition forever.

I'm right there with you. I hate Blockbuster with a passion. They have tried to screw me multiple times and I just stopped renting at all until Netflix came along. I love them, I've been with them for over a year and they have been outstanding.

F*CK Blockbuster, they will not see a dime of my money.

It seams with Netflix that they are shipping to me slower on purpose. 1st couple of months I got 1 day turnaround, last 2 months i get 2-3 days turnaround. I think this is because I get the DVD and watch it the same day, send it back the next! Off to blockbuster I go!

Um. Nope. Any rental, any method of renting. Pretty clear at the beginning of the statement. Of course, it's only at participating blockbusters.

Netflix turnaround in the sf bay area has gone down hill very quickly in recent months. We used to get very fast turnaround times that enable us to get 2 cycles a week. Now it's down to 1 cycle a week. Not cool.

Im a netflix user, and i still continue to use them because they have far more anime titles which is what I mostly watch. Also I really hate blockbuster. They really kept screqing me and everyone in the past, and had just the stupidist return times and prices (5 bucks and I had to get it in by the crack of dawn on the second day? no thank you). I just can't fathom giving them another dime.

BTW alot of you seem to be under the notion that close dsitribution center = fast turn around times. Let me just blow that notion out of the sky right now. You see.. you SEND your movies to the closest distribution center, but you don't allways GET your movies from them. You are sent them from who ever has the movie available. That may or may not be the center near you. This is why some titles can get a 2 day turn around, and others can take 4 days to send.

I havn't rented any new release hollywood movies from netflix so I cant comment on their availability.

i got em both right now, and for mainstream stuff, both are similar. if you want to get indy film or harder to find films, netfilx will most likely have it. (one example: netflix's anime selection is much better) turn around are both pretty crappy, but w/ BB i do get 2 free B&M rentals ^^

i wouldn't give bb a cent of my money considering how shady they've been with customers in the past..and how they fought unrated directors cuts, wide screen etc etc..

I've been with NetFlix for about a year. At first they were fast with turnaround times for movies. I only live about 15 miles from the distribution center. Now... like nixie21, it seems as if they are shipping slower on purpose. It takes them a day or two to process my return and another day or two to ship my movie. Total turnaround is about 3-5 days right now, which I'm not too happy about. I hope they get better as there is no excuse since they are so close. Maybe I should just drive over there on my way to work and drop them off in person and eliminate the fact that USPS might be to blame for the slow deliveries???

I've found that NetFlix will do anything to limit you to 3 movies a week. I've stayed at 3 a week and I usually get whatever I want, with little or no wait.

I tried Blockbuster, what a joke. They won't last long at their current service level.

Lower price because of competition is good though, thanks BB!

My trial with BB went like this. First two movies came to me in three days. The third got to me in 5 days. All were shipped on a Monday according to my emails. Horrible service. I don't know how they will survive. Not only do they have to be equal to Netflix to survive, they will need to be better than Netflix to pull their customers away. I will be cancelling when my trial is up.:disgust:
