I recently moved from San Diego to Las Vegas. I'm not sure where are their distribution centers around here but while Netflix still only takes a day to ship and receive discs, Blockbuster is lagging big time. 75% of my mainstream movie titles all in a sudden became either a short or long wait, and they take 2 and sometimes 3 days in transit. Ah, Netflix it is.

Netflix intentionally adds a delay time to "hi usage" customers to keep their profits up.

I'm in Houston and I literally get my movies the next day after they send the email that they have been sent.

Personally, I hope that blockbuster withers and dies. A video game rental for $7? I BOUGHT most of my GC games for between $10 and $20!

Oh cool, I was gonna ask if there was a DC-area distro center. Guess there is. Maybe I'll have to sign up for this.

Netflix has shipping centers all over the place. There are at least two in Washington state. It used to take a couple days for a movie to reach me, but now they added a distribution center in eastern Washington and now the turnaround time is even better. I ship them a movie... the next day they receive it and ship me a new one. I receive the new one two days after I shipped the old one back. Awesome.

Also, I have heard you should NEVER answer those emails Netflix sometimes sends...the ones that ask when you received a movie. They may actually slow down your shipments if you receive movies too quickly. If you have answered those emails, wait for your next one and lie on it...tell them you received it later than you actually did. I have seen reports that this will speed your service back up to what it was originally. Then just ignore any future survey emails.

5 years with Netflix, and I've had them ship a FS instead of a WS once. ONCE. I won't even consider trying BB because Netflix has always been pretty good, and in some areas (their selection of foreign, indie, and "cult" movies) they are getting even better.

DOH!!!! Aww man i didn't know that. I answered them truthfully, that they got to me the very next day.

I was actually thinking of switching to Blockbuster because Netflix was becoming slow. They would ship it the next day instead of the very day they got it. And so many with wait periods too. While Blockbuster ships Saturdays and gets word from the Post Office to ship out new ones when the PS gets returned ones. But them I'm not sure I want to change, it could be you think the grass is greener on the other side but it ain't thing.

edited.

Netflix sends you them randomly. You don't even get a chance to chose, at least with Blockbuster if you chose WS most of the time it comes WS, with netflix it's 50/50 WS vs FS...so, where it sucks on both fronts, netflix is even worse not giving you an otpion one way or the other...

That is incredibly inaccurate. I have had NetFlix for 11 months now and I have ALWAYS received widescreen (which I prefer) and if they are not they clearly state that the movie is full screen.

Made the mistake of switching to BB to save a couple of $$ a month and get the instore freebies. Well after about 6 months, BB can kiss my rosy red ******. Last straw was a disc arriving yesterday that was almost split in two. Unfortunately, my card was charged two days ago

Except for when Netflix and Tivo finally hook up and you no longer need DVD's, you can just download the movies to your Tivo directly from Netflix, d0y. So stay with Blockbuster if you want, but Netflix and Tivo is where it's at. ;o)

For the North Carolina crowd, Netflix ships from Greensboro and Blockbuster from Charlotte, IIRC. I was an early adherent to Netflix and received Blockbuster for 8 months. I dropped Blockbuster two months ago. IMO, Netflix has a better collection and faster delivery.

I mailed 5 Netflix discs from the Chapel Hill post office at 5pm Wednesday (4/6). By 11AM Thursday (4/7), three discs were being shipped and two discs were scheduled for FRI shipping.

It was important for me b/c my subscription changes from 8 to 3 on 4/8.

Anyone else notice the new releases section on the blockbuster website hasn't really been updated?

I had to manually add the incredibles with a search. Plus no more coming soon? Am I missing something or does the website suck that bad?

I am experiencing the same slowdown from Netflix as well. Maybe it is the surveys I responded to. For the past couple of months it would usually take 3-4 days for them to acknowledge receiving a movie and another day to send out the next one. Add the weekend on top, it's usually about one full week tournaround for me these days.

I''m also in chapel hill, haven't tried blockbuster, but netflix usually has the movie in my mailbox in 2-3 days(usually 48 hour turnaround during the week), one to receive the old, and one to two to get me the new. Granted, greensboro is less than an hour away.

This happened to me twice with Netflix. Things break in the mail.

What movie have you found at Netflix but not at Blockbuster (mail)? My only problem with BB is the copy availability but they have had just as great a selection as Netflix otherwise.

I'm switching back to Netflix in about a month but it's rough giving up these 2 free game coupons a month...

Just signed up for the Netflix free trial. I prefer to support small business. Thanks for the comparisons I will report back soon. Both of my movies are supposed to ship tomorrow. 50 first dates and Final Cut (2004.) BB didnt even have Final Cut in stock at any B&M locations in my county. :/

I have noticed this myself. I find there's no way to list all new releases chronologically. You can, however, go to the individual genres, where it is possible to sort the releases in such a way. Cumbersome, but until BB fixes the 'main' new releases page, this is the only way.
