I've heard that Netflix has a distro center in Denver. Considering that I live in Denver....

Since they have a center in Santa Ana, CA.. My turn around is just 1-day. So Netflix is definitely the one if you are in the Los Angeles area..

Does anyone know if BB has a center in California???

Netflix for me turn around is usually 2-3 days, so i can usually get 6 movies a week if i really want to, other than that i can easily get 4. i was screwed by blockbuster for years before netflix came around, i hated the f*cking late fees when i would get the movies back on time. if there was no Netflix then we would still all be getting screwed by blockbuster.

Hmm do the dvds work? Are there a lot of scratches? About what percentage you rented so far are scratched?

Well, I decided to give the online dvd thing a try and signed up with BB on Jan 19th. I can definitely say they can kiss my arse!! :|

I've only received 3 dvds since joining them 12 days ago. I qeued up my movies the same evening and got confirmation of the dvds being sent out the next day but it took frickin 4 days to get them. I received my first set of 3 on Jan 24th and sent them all back on the 25th. I finally got confirmation this morning that they sent out another set of 3 dvds SIX days after I sent the first set back (the distro center located in Phoenix is located less than 175 miles away!!) At this rate, I might get a whopping 6 to 9 dvds in a months time if I'm lucky. The support from BB is virtually useless, after numerous emails, the only reply I get is "we apologize".

I guess the quick turnaround factor is a big ymmv depending on location. Needless to say I'll gladly be dumping BB's crappy service at the end of the month. I guess I'll give Netflix a try hopefully Netflix will have better turnaround times.

Out of the whopping 3 dvd's that I've received in 12 days after signing up with BB, 1 was badly scratched but viewable and the other 2 were in pretty new shape.

I work for a company that built the online site and I am on a project right now with Blockbuster to improve their service. If you tried the subscription service when it first came out then you are really missing out on the improvements in service Blockbuster has made by opening an additional 12 distribution centers throughout the US. The project I am working on right now will greatly improve fulfillment times regardless of location, I can't really go into any greater detail than that as Blockbuster has not officially released what we are about to do (just think about how many stores BB has). Also, for those that aren't a big fan of the website, they are constantly making improvements to it. Obviously, I am going to be a little biased as I work along with these people, but so far I have been very impressed with their efforts to constantly improve.

I dont really have a problem with their web site or movie selections, its just that their service flat out sucks arse in my area. Their CS isnt really worth a crap either.

If the service is considered "improved" with the opening of some new distro centers, man I'd really hate to have seen what the service was like before (my distro center is less than 175 miles away) It took exactly one week since I sent my first three dvd's back to get only one dvd in return (I wonder where the other 2 are since I sent all three back on the same day?) It's been 14 days since I signed up and I just received my 4th dvd today and got notification that my 5th and 6th dvd's should arrive by Feb 4th.

Maybe its just my location, since others users are reporting better turnaround times...I dunno? Maybe the service will get better if the stores get involved somehow as you have hinted.

Anybody else in the Bay Area been experiencing a drop in Netflix service recently?

For oh, about the past month or so, my turnaround time has been increasing (mostly by 1-2 days, sometimes a bit more). More and more of the movies in my queue are "long waits" or "very long waits"...whats going on? Has everyone suddenly discovered Netflix?

Then again, it could be that Netflix is intentionally slowing my service down....who knows.....

I signed up for the BB trial last week.
I'm a little worried about the turnaround time. My first 3 movies shipped on Saturday. The estimated delivery date was today (3 post office days later). I received one movie yesterday, one movie today, and haven't received the 3rd movie yet. Makes me wonder wtf the deal is. Why would it take 2 days, 3 days, and 4 or more days when all three movies shipped at the same time?

Well, I signed up last Sunday and 9 days into the BB Trial vs NF Membership.... BB has Netflix beat by 2 DVDs. I received a mislabled from NF and a broken disk from BB. BB sent the replacement out the next day, before I had shipped the broken one back (giving me 4 DVDs out at one time) while NF waited. I'll continue with the trial and make my final decision on Sunday.

I'm in Renton, Washington, and am having good service with the Blockbuster trial. Into my second of four weeks, I have already received 7 DVDs. One, "Troy", was unwatchable -- looked like a dog or a movie critic had chewed it. BB offfered to send a replacement immediately, but I decided to move on to better movies, like Alien vs Predator

I used Netflix for half a year and now am using Blockbuster. I live in Arlington, VA and both companies ship out of Gaithersburg, MD. I like blockbuster, as the shipping speeds are the same but the 2 instore coupons/month are nice More bang for your buck

There's also a rumor that Netflix plans to carry adult films (soft core, i believe).

I was wondering if any of you with slow return rates have inserted your own label over the return envelope address so it goes back to the hub nearest to you? I haven't experienced the lag because they usually end up getting mine the next day.

This is a good idea. My BB DC changed from Sac to San Jose and service has slowed. Gonna try the label thing. Now to find the address.

It's good to know the political interests of companies. I no longer deal with Home Depot, or drink Coors beer. Will think of BB.

Porn = Good, Softcore porn = Bad

Knowing hypocritical so called conservative companies, I bet that BB will be first with hardcore.

According to Blockbuster (their web site says so) they don't wait to receive a DVD to send the next one from your queue. USPS notifies them as soon as USPS gets the envelope. If that's true then it shouldn't matter which is the BB hub that will receive the returned DVD.

I live in Walnut Creek and in the last month or two the speed wen down a big time. I was able to watch 20 movies a month before and now I can hardly do 12. I a lot of the new movies in my queue show short/long wait. I returned three movies at the same time last week and Netflix received them in two days at the same time. The next 3 movies that they shipped however had the exact same shipped date but one of them had estimated arrival date one day after the estimated arrival date of the other two. Can somebody explain this?

They may say that but its hard for me to believe since it took 7 days from day I sent my first 3 dvd's back to get one in return. I'm still waiting for the other two, its been 16 days and only 4 dvd's total received.

Well... that may explain how Netflix is able to have such quick turn around times (which I always found remarkable), however it doesn't explain how they know which movie is being returned (at least with Netflix), because sometimes I will not put the DVD back into the exact same envelope that it came in (having multiple envelopes at a time).

So... perhaps they don't use that method. Do Block Buster movies need to be returned in the same envelope they arrived in?

According to Netflix, movies shipped on the same date may not arrive at the same time, because if a movie is not available in your closest distritbution center, they will send it from the next closest dist. center, and so forth.

I have about 35 movies in my Blockbuster queue and about 25 of them are on short/long wait. My shipping time has also gone down as of late. It was quicker when I was getting movies from Sacramento but now I get them from San Jose and it's really slow.

Because of the huge list I have on wait, I'm thinking of switching to Netflix. They now have an unlimited, 2 @ a time plan for $14.99. It's the same price as what I'm paying for Blockbuster but only one DVD less. That's not bad, especially if I don't have to wait for the movies.
