$#@! My sister doesn't need/want my current Brother HL-1240 so now it's hard to justify buying the HL-1440.

Is there a utility or any way I can find out how much toner/drum I have remaining?

I started this morning by logging in with the URL for the $50 off $250 (very important to remember the URL for later).

I ordered a Brother HL-1440 laser printer for $299.98, less $50 instant discount and with a $50 MIR gift card back to Office Max. I added some pens to get the discounted price over $250 so I could apply the $50 off $250. When I got to checkout, all was there as expected, but no $50 off $250.

I called the 800 number and explained what I was seeing. The helper told me to go to the next screen (complete the transaction) and the $50 off would be on the screen. It wasn't, but now I had ordered the printer. After lots more talking, including going back to the printer item page, they asked for the URL I had started with and then credited the $50 directly to my credit card, independent of the purchase.

With careful add-on and counting the rebate, this current deal takes the price down to about $150 (plus tax). If you can hit the $50 off $250 from Ebates, it would be even better.

Gee, I suppose if I now cancelled the order...Ah, never mind, I really want the printer. They say I'll have it tomorrow, free shipping.

I own this printer, and let me tell you, it rocks!!! That 15 ppm isn't BS like most ratings are. This thing is FAST and has GREAT quality text and pictures. Funny thing is, I like it better at 600dpi than at 1200 dpi. Plus, its way less expensive in the long run for printing costs.

Update from speck @ fatw*llet:

"The CSR I talked to said that the $50 instant rebate will be applied when the item ships. The instant rebate disappeared because the item is on back order. It will get applied when the item is back in stock."

I just read that over there too. Don't know if I believe it though. I hope he got that person's name and direct phone #/extension.

I spoke with a CSR and he says he never heard of such a thing, he could be wrong though.

The deal is good until the 22nd. I'm thinking of ordering it too but I want to see the IR also. No way would I trust OM to apply a IR after the fact.

**Edit**
It looks like they're removed any reference to the $50 IR. It was there last night when you did a search for Brother HL-1440. Looks like those of us who didn't order earlier are sol.

I was able to convince OMAX to add the additional 50 off after completing my order, based on the initial search page that said 50 mail in rebate and 50 instant rebate. It took a few phone calls, but my total was 218.xx with tax. But now the same page has been updated to remove the ref. to the instant rebate, so I doubt you could convince them of it. Got my printer today, put in 16 meg simm, and it rocks!! Except that it seems to print a little light compared to my IBM Network Printer. And I can't find any setting to make the print darker. Anyone have any ideas?

Got mine today! Seems like a great little printer... question, though: what receipt are we supposed to use for the Mail-in Rebate/GC? Can I just print out a copy of my order page? No packing slip or anything came with the printer...

Ideas?

I had the same problem. I called the OM customer service and they will send you a receipt. They said they would fax me a copy, but I told them the rebate asks for the original. Be quick, as the rebate needs to be postmarked within 14 days from purchase.

Got my printer earlier in the week and finally got a chance to set it up. This thing FLIES! I'm real happy with the print speed. Now to dig up some additional memory to add to it. Thanks for posting the great deal (I got it with the $50 off instant rebate -- and just sent in for the $50 gift card).

I saw the $300 -50 -50 price on the website Monday right before goin to lunch and knew this was probably a typo. So, on my way to lunch I stopped in OM to find that they were OOS. I asked about the website price and they said they would match it even though the in-store tag only mentioned the GC - "If thats what it says on the website...then we'll match it". So I handed the guy a nice high-gloss color laser print out the site
and asked him to check the other local stores - he found one and said that he could have it in within a few days.

A few days? To travel 4.3 miles? Hrrm..ok...anyway...

Once he told me that it was all taken care of I asked if I could pay for it now. He said they couldn't ring it up until they had it. Ok, I said, but are you still going to honor this price after it comes in and the price has changed? "Yes, sir". Ok, not that I don't believe you but could just make a note and sign your name on this handy print-out of mine? "Sure..."

Fast forward 4 days [read Friday]. The 1440 is in. I go to the store with my a-little-more-worn print-out and go to pay for the printer without saying anything about the price just for fun. The cashier tells me it will be something like $320 (300+tax). I innocently said, oh, when I ordered it it was supposed to be $250 with a GC. The cashier said that they never had it at that price/offer but there had been a typo on the website earlier in the week. Oh really? <gasp>. I handed her the signed printout. Without much more hesitation, she corrected it for the proper total of $249. After getting my receipt I said, oh..there was supposed to be a $50 GC rebate with that (teehee). And being that the GC rebate slip didn't print out with the receipt as it normally does...bring on the fun! A whole group of them started running around like lost headless chickens for a while trying to figure out what to do. After a few mins, the manager came out. I just handed him the print-out and smiled w/o saying a word. He went to the register, came back and handed me my $50 GC

p.s. Am I the only one who finds this kinda thing thouroughly entertaining?

Ahhhk!

Ahhhk... ahh yes, entertainment.
I think I may have entertained OM this time.
Lucky you... I will have to send in for my GF.
But, there is something to be said for the Entertainment Factor.

I got a problem with my HL-1440. When I print a stamps.com's envelope, there is a white vertical band in the bar code area. Same thing happend, if I print some black image.

I cleaned the scanner window, the corana wire. Still no help.

I installed 32MB memory, choose 600dpi.

Any suggestion?

What's strange is when I print my stamps.com envelope I get nothing printed on the envelope. How have you set up your printer to work with Stamps.com?

Couple of suggestions to try:

- In the Advanced tab of the Printer Properties dialog, go to "Device Options" (the rightmost button out of the five buttons), under TrueType Mode, choose "Download as Bit Image" instead of the default setting of "Print as Graphics". See if that'll make a difference.

- If that doesn't work, then try using another printer driver. Since the HL-1440 supports PCL 4 emulation, try using a PCL 4 driver, like the driver for the HP Laserjet II (should be included in your Windows OS.)

Good luck!

Bob61, at first I printed nothing in the envelope, then I printed the graphic to PDF file. Open the PDF file, print. Then got the blur bar code.

Not everyone's having a problem, working great for me. Fast printing, good quality, worth the bucks! Made a nice upgrade to my previous laser printer.
