Ditto on the extended version. I have both versions of Fellowship and Towers. I never watch the 'regular' versions of these anymore. So why even buy them (assuming you're going to get the extended versions).

The ONLY reason to buy the regular AND the extended versions (together) are the extras. They each contain different extras (in other words, if you bought the regular version of The Two Towers, you have some extras the extended version doesn't have, and vice versa). That is why there was a rebate if you owne the regular version.

You'd have to be a die-hard fan to do this, but it's obviously working or they wouldn't offer the rebate.

P.S. If the theatical editions of FOTR and TT came out in August and the extended editions in November, wouldn't it then follow that the extended edition of ROTK would likewise follow three months after the theatrical edition and be released in August?

It seems like I read somewhere that the extended edition would still come out around Christmas, and not necessarily 3 months behind the main ROTK video release.

I agree... Preorders are worthless unless you get something free with the item or you live in a remote area.

No, this should be faster. Before they had to finish up editing of the next film while the DVD was being made. Now, they can focus on making the DVD. The actors and such will have more time to give interviews, etc.
