For those interested.... 2 Days ONLY... yes they have been cheaper in the past.

Outpost.com has the 500GB Retail version (both 16mb cache) with 5 year warranty of both SATA and PATA for $99.00 + shipping ($6.64 for me to NC).

Not a SCORCHING HOT deal but good enough for my RAID5 linux file server.

edit: hmm, didnt know we couldnt link to chiefvalue. The link was supposed to be a Samsung 501LJ for $104.99 shipped. CV has treated me well with super fast shipping.

believe it or not, you are right I never heard of it :shocked:
I will take a look at it in a bit.

The samsung has stayed at that price for well over a month actually. Its just that CV has a promo ($5 off $130 or something, forgot the exact amount). In my experience, when both egg and CV has the identical item, CV either has it a tad cheaper or offers free shipping when egg doesnt. The reverse is also true at times.

If buying multiple drives at Outpost, each additional drive only adds a buck or so in shipping, making it a hotter deal. Oh yeah, the retail boxed units come with a SATA data cable and power adapter.

I thought that was another place... some place that specializes in blank media based in Walnut or Industry, CA... name escapes me at this time. CV is part of the Newegg conglomerate so I don't know why it would be banned, but it is.

I was waiting for this deal for 2 months now. Finally bought the Maxtor 500 , 3 yr warr. sata for $99 . I'd much prefer this seagate 5 yr warr. Goes to show ya. Most of life is timing.
