Warm to Hot Office Max Bundle 6/22 - 6/28

I just picked up the EMachines Bundle at OM. I did modify it slightly (changed printer) to make it a better value (for me anyway).
For all the DIY it'probably not that great but for a friend?

For $448 after 7 rebates and GC, I got a Celeron 2.2, 256M, 48XCDRW,6in1 Media reader, 10/100 Ethernet, modem, 40? Gig HD, XP PRO! (Not Home!), a 17" Samsung 17" FS CRT and an HP1000 LaserJet ($199, $148 this week, $40 Gift Card so $60 cash over the ink jet but only $20 after GC)

Get another 256 Meg for FAR at OD and you have a decent starter system.

It's typical emachine styling, but a least it's not a beige box.

It is not a joke. I had one 400 mhz, within 6 months, I had replaced modem, power supply, cd-rom; another year, dead harddrive. I bought that one for my dad as an internet machine, end up with headache.

I bought a Celeron 1.7 GHz eMachines last Xmas and it has been working great so far. Its PS is very quiet compared with other machines I have and the one I put together (XP 1800) that I put together. Certainly they are value for the money.

some people have no problems with them (which I'm amazed at), and others like me, because a family member decides it would be a perfect thing to get, gets the one with a faulty motherboard that likes to turn itself off at random points (nope, not the power supply. replaced that). It's a gamble as to whether you get a good one or a bad one. Good luck.

DanFungus said is right, when you buy an eMachines it's a gamble.

I know of one person who's eMachines has run with no problems for 1 year now.

However I also know of 3 other people who have had their eMachines die, due to dead power supply (most common), etc.

I bought a refurbished eMachine from Fry's 4 years ago (466id) and it has, amazingly, worked well ever since then. The keyboard keys are getting sticky, but everything else is still working. I guess I was very lucky.

My aunt has an emachine in her barn, unisulated... she does leather work and saddle and harness repair for horses, damn emachine been running non stop in that environment for two years now with the only down time coming from power outages...

Sorry, but Ive had great luck with emachines. Turned a low end box into a server and its been running for 2 yrs straight.

The Emachines system that I sold my sister turned out to be the most reliable system that I have seen. Not to mention that the system was a Computer Geeks refurb too. Well.. The Pentium Pro Digital system that I picked up for $20 at Egghead has been pretty reliable too.
