This is a better quality scanner than some of the other ones what have popped up recently for around these prices. I'd pick a Umax scanner over a Visioneer in a heartbeat...

Picked up one of these when building a friend's system a while back... seems like a nice scanner. I have a 1220U that I'm thinkng about replacing. Might pick this up.

Umax has to send me a special form, because Insight glued the packing slip on the UPC. It would have been rejected as damaged.

18.48 is a GOOD price for 600x1200 USB. What do you want it , for free??!!! I bought the 2000U for 79.99 with a 30.00 rebate last summer and I thought 50.00 for the 2000U was decent. Less than 20.00 for the newer model. Go for it if you need one. I am happy with the 2000U and the software is good and it's pretty fast, especially compared to the 300x600 parallel port I had.

UMAX now tops my rebate "stinker" list. They have the longest outstanding rebate having been requested on October 4th.

Oh, btw they aknowledge that the paperwork has been received and all is in order .... they just ain't paying!!!

With all the scanner deals out there, do yourself a favor and deal with manufacturers and retailers who honor their commitments.

I have one of these and it works great on typical scanning.

Speed is a bit slow but image quality is great.

buy this scanner umax 2100u and the visioner 4400 and tack on a coupon
and come out real well on the deal

These people have the worst rebate system I've run across. My rebate stuff was mailed off on 10/04/01, they acknowledged it's "complete," they just ain't paying!!!

I just tried calling them, again, this morning and was left on hold for over an hour (used the speaker phone to monitor while doing other things)and never got thru. Their automated system says they mailed a check, but that's what a human said on 1/15/01 and again on 1/29/01. Where is my money!!

Look, there are great deals on better scanners out there. Stay away from these people if you are counting on the rebate to make this a "hotdeal."

What I and others are saying is that UMAX uses rebate people who don't pay without a REAL hassle.

There are REAL give aways on scanners going on right now. Get one of them! Avoid UMAX rebates.

I bought a U-MAX scanner about a year ago, also with a rebate. After
sending in the rebate I got a postcard saying that I didn't include
the recipt. Best buy had given me a recipt JUST for fileing the rebate. Like Hychka says U-max just don't wanna pay!!

What's your point? What does it matter to any consumer who the firm uses to do rebates?

The firm, in this case, UMAX, is responsible for getting us our rebates on a timely basis (within the time promised in their original ad) and they, UMAX in this case, (thru their agents, WHATEVER!!!) do a pi$$ poor job of it.

If you have to call several times, stay of hold for more than a few minutes (in my case an hour!!), hear the same lame stories and wait over five months for the rebate (which still hasn't shown up),

HOW IS THIS A "HOTDEAL"??!!

Actually, although outside companies are used to process rebates, the manufacturer dictates on what schedule checks are to be cut and snet. So, the processing firms may process your paperwork withing a coule of days or weeks when receiving your rebate form, but UMAX tells the processign company: issues check ___ weeks after processed. And UMAX probably says 6 months, whereas Kingston andothers might say: 10 weeks.

In my casr UMAX's rebate says, "Allow 12 weeks after a claim has been received by fulfillment company to receive your rebate."

They blew thru 12 weeks two months ago!!

Here's the latest in my UMAX rebate battles.

Got a REAL person at the rebate center yesterday after only a 38 second hold.

However, the real person told me that the check had been sent out and had been cashed on 12/21/00. This is the first time having called them every two weeks since mid December that they had this information. And, cashing that check on the 21st would be a real trick as my entire family had been in New England (the check would have been mailed to our Indiana home) since the 17th for the start of our two week Christmas/NY Holidays in Boston and Providence! So, certainly I hadn't cashed this check.

The csr then said that SOMEONE at this address had cashed it; she wanted to know who had access to our mail in our absence. The answer is the three children next door aged 6, 8 and 10, who were supervised by their father, a USA Major. None of these charectors is a likely check stealer.

I asked for a copy of the cancelled check to see if indeed I had endorsed it. The csr said I would have to take this up with my bank. How could I do that if I didn't either write or cash the check? What would my bank have to do with this? No answer; the csr had to talk with the mgr.

After about 2 minutes or less she came back with word that they decided to cut another check. (I was grateful for a small victory.) "You can expect to receive the check in about 6 to 8 weeks." The victory got MUCH smaller!!

To recap that's a purchase in September, a mail in rebate sent in on Oct 4th and pymt can be expected in mid to the end of April!! I have records of calling them on seven occasions. This will be my new all-time stinker rebate.

I did call that # Bob/NYC suggested and was treated very well. They agree that their rebate performance has to be improved. (They laughed at the bottom line that I could expect the check in about 6 to 8 weeks.)

Hope we all get a laugh as I don't seem to be getting any cash.
