Warm--WD 80GB 7200 for $119 after MIR at OM

I got in on this, thanks for the info. I was able to use the staples 40 off 200 We (friends and I) ended up with 40 80 gig 7200 hard drives. Final cost gonna be about 90 dollars each !!

Got my hard drive and paper clips (woohoo) today just like promised. Was charged a total of 169.... take 80 off of that and we have a 80GB 7200 RPM drive for 89 bucks... as advertised.

I wish I can get another one for a 160GB Raid setup... Hmmm.. maybe I should swing by a local OM and see if any are in stock.

I almost had one... well, two actually when you count the one my dad ordered too.

But then after multiple confirmations that one store had them, and then getting there and finding no stock and proceeding to another location only to repeat it.

End result was basically every Office Max in the state of Wisconsin was checked, with the only store possibly having stock left was in Marinette (roughly 6 hours away, I'm not traveling 6 hours for two harddrives)where the inventory showed they had 4, although the inventory system had been wrong about 5 times by this point in time. This was Monday afternoon.

Each drive was ready to go, $169 each, in store pick up... purchase via phone... just couldn't actually get a drive.

When I was talking to managers about when they would get stock, most were indicating the 21st would be a good day to check, kinda nice that they actually have them after the rebate deadline passes.

I went back to my local officemax today with a printout of the Sams Club page showing the 80GB drive for $179.00. I asked for a pricematch, they said they would do it.. The cashier started going about the re ring when she dicovered that a "discount" had been applied to the original purchase. She couldn't figure out a way to do the re ring and then do the PM and $40.00...

I thought I was dead in the water when she headed over to talk to the manager... when she came back she gave me an instore credit for $20.00... Not what I was hoping for but still pretty good.... 80GB HD for $60 after rebate...................... Yeah I am happy

Actually, you should check tomorrow (1/16). The Atlantic Avenue OM in Brooklyn is getting 5 in tomorrow morning. I know because I went there tonight and although they told me 3 times during the day that the HD was in stock, it was OOS when I got there and has been OOS for days they tell me. BUT, apparently there are 5 coming in (well 4 now, I have one on reserve) tomorrow morning. HOWEVER, they don't accept Staples coupons (I tried for an hour to get them to take the damn thing) so your drive will only be $120.

BTW: Can someone possibly PM me a link to the Microcenter ad for the WD HD so I can Price Match? Thanks.

Does anyone know if you can call and give them the staples coupon and order this and then pick it up at the store? I know my local OM has this but they won't take staples coupons.

Jhill, I phone ordered and they told me they would not take the Staples coupon if I picked it up in store. So I have to pay for delivery, but it will be less than picking it up. Your mileage may vary depending on who you talk to.

These guys are almost as bad as Staples... I won't say they ARE as bad yet until I see if they actually SHIP my Hard drive or not. I placed the order on the 13th at like 2pm and on the order receipt it showed "BACKORDERED." But now I'm hearing from all these ppl who ordered it AFTER me, that they already got their friggin drives. >: ( All I have to say is Officedepot better come through or I will be VERY upset. It's unbelievable that they have no kind of "priority" on their order system. Anybody else experiencing this "backorder" problem???
sigh... It looks like for many ppl, a near-DELL situation will be happening again : /

I ordered mine on the phone last Sunday night, got it this Tuesday, pretty fast.
and beware of the rebate, it says on the rebate form:
rebate form must be postmarked within 14 days from the date of purchase and received no later than

I saw that too.... Got mine out the day after I got it... I hope they don't screw with any of us... They must really be hoping that alot people don't mail it in time.... Nice that we only get 2 weeks to mail it and 3 weeks to get it there but they get 8 weeks to send the check....

I like the part about illegible submissions too... They could just say they couldn't read them..... My hand writing is pretty bad but, I have yet to get a rebate yet... Well except for some CrapUSA rebates a couple of years ago but, they never sent them to anybody..... i don't do CompUSA rebates anymore....

Just a word to the wise:

Anyone who bought the 60gb WD at OM last week, this is the same rebate, only for a different amount. Only one submission per address or household. No, you cannot get a 60gb from last week & a 80gb from this week, & get both rebates. Only one.

If you did this, just make sure you fill them out for different addresses.

BTW, this goes for the 40gb rebate in effect for next week at OM, once again using the same rebate form & sent to the same p.o. box.

just called the CSR about my "backorder." She said as long as the item shows up on the dated(1/13/02) receipt I got, even though it didn't show that I was charged for it, it should still be valid to send for. So I'll just have to wait for it to arrive... The only problem I see is the 14 day postmark limit... >: ( This is ridiculous.... All I have to say is the drive BETTER come before the 27th or I will be chewing out someone on the phone.

Did this deal the other day at my local store in the Phila. PA area. I added the free after MIR $2.99 white out pens to get over $200. The clerk didn't know how to ring it all up with the Staples $40 off $200 coupon so the manager intervened expressing little displeasure except for muttering, " I don't know how Officemax can make any money selling it for this price ", and I left the store with my superb deal. Nothing beats $1 per GB! Oh, except maybe the last drive I got during Best Buy's black Fri. sale. That was the West. Dig. 60 GB that I bought 2 days before the sale then took back for the pricematch for final price of $50 after MIR, or about $0.83 per GB! Can't wait for the President's Day sales!

Every store in NYC is sold out (I've checked). There is one OM on the east side of Long Island that has a number of them, but unless you own a car, is just about impossible or impractical to get to.

They're apparently on backorder in the LA area... anybody else in the LA area experiencing these same problems??? Ugh... the CSR said I was supposed to receive a call for a APPROXIMATE DELIVERY DATE.... this was supposed to happen TWO days ago. OM is not following up very well. Oh well, guess I'll have to call them back some time. What bothers me the MOST is that I placed the order on the SAME day the rebate started. This is just too ridiculous to worry about anymore...
