Movies are boring these days

Guess I'm getting old but I'd rather do something like work on my house, go for a walk or jog, lift weights, etc...
Nothing more boring than sitting in front of a box to me. /shrug

Avatar, boring? MI:Ghost Protocol, boring? Sherlock Holmes, boring? If anything movies these days aren't "boring" enough, which is why it's great when a movie like Drive comes along and gets it right.

Zodiac too, the David Fincher version was long and lacked much action but was perfectly done without being boring.

I haven't bought a movie in many years. Reason: I watch 99.9% (literally) of movies only once and I can rent for between $1 and $5 depending source and quality, so I will never pay anything more than that to "buy" it. This is sad, WBtrying to force people back to buying physical media.

Sorry, that movie was boring. Not anything else, but boring.

i know knee jerk u can say folks will pirate, but they would regardless. so i guess in theory its just an exclusive period like the in theater period, you never know, it might work. the folks that will pirate it won't be stopped, even during the theater exclusivity period, no doubt but they may make more from sales even so because the pennies they get from dollar rentals is not worth protecting.

Exactly. However I know a good number of the people in this thread pirate movies and this gives them another reason to keep their conscious clean.

Forced to sit through warnings? lol. Like that is a valid reason to steal someones work?

No. Some people will just steal regardless and use any and all excuses to do it.

They make more off store sales than rentals (at least theoretically). This isn't a push against piracy, this is another way to try to increase sales. Delay the rentals, and it forces the more impatient people to buy them outright (or go to the theater).

The problem is, many people don't buy movies they haven't seen. This will bite them in the ass. This will push more people to pirate.

I have never pirated a movie. I rent a decent amount from vudu and I even pay for mp3s now that it is easy to do so.

However if a movie is out and yet I can't rent it I will likely forget about it. Convenience sells, inconvenience doesn't.... See music sales in the late 90s and early 2000s for proof.

I love people who justify pirating because of business decisions like this.
It isn't your product. You are not entitled to watch it whenever you want however you want.

Ah, doesn't affect me. I don't go to theaters to watch movies. I just wait for the movie to be released on BD and then just buy it. Cheaper than going to the movie theaters, and better than renting (no waiting on the movie to become available).

I agree to a certain extent. If I buy the movie, I should be able to do whatever the hell I want with it. It IS mine at that time.

He won't agree with that. He likes the idea we buy what and where the big boys tell us to. He will make the argument that you only purchased what you can do currently and it isn't your right to do what you want with what you own.

I don't think anyone is trying to justify it, it's just the reality of the situation that the bigwigs just don't "get".

However you are wrong in your last statement. If someone pays for it, then yes, they can watch it whenever, however they want. They are just one more company who doesn't want to change their business model but will have to, or quit making movies. Trust me, if the movie industry stopped making movies, no one would miss them currently. Someone else would take up the slack, and do it better, and cheaper.

I agree. Piracy is wrong and those doing it should stop. There is no justification for stealing it.

this is where you are wrong. Once i buy the movie i should be able to put it my laptop, phone, etc. I should be able to watch it 100000 times on any tv or such.

IF i want to lend my DVD to a friend? yeah they can watch it too.

This will have no impact on my renting/buying habits. I buy movies that I want in my collection. I rent movies I don't really give a shit about.

If anything, this makes me more likely to buy movies secondhand when possible...

If someone is only interested enough in a movie to rent it (as opposed to buying it), they'll be willing to wait the extra 30 days rather than cough up a lot more money for a permanent copy.

Pirates assume people agree with them and such business tactics will increase their numbers, but that really isn't true.

WB thinks DVD sales are down because of the ease of renting, not realizing the price of movies doubled and the economy tanked. Playing hardball with Netflix won't help their case at all, they simply won't recover until they drop blu-ray prices.

Anyone who is bothered by the longer wait was never going to buy the movie to begin with.

These studios need to stop dicking around and overvaluing their content. There are literally thousands of shows to watch, and ways to spend my time. If they want to put roadblocks between me and their content, I'm just going to skip it.

Again, this has nothing to do with pirating. Fact is, many movies can be found (in actual dvd release) long before they are actually on the street. This is simply them trying yet one more way to try to keep things the way they used to be. There used to be a LONG wait for rentals back in the day, as well as a long wait before it came out on cable. Nowadays, it's not like that at all.

Yup.. i remember waiting 8 months or more for a movie to hit VHS...
Now its 2 months after it leaves theaters, and it's on DVD... what's another 2 months..
