There's also a thread over at FW on the same issues. Seems one of the moderators had the same scam pulled on his credit card and took off any promotion they had on FW. The mod says he's going to have a meeting with Tigerdirect next Monday about this problem.

I ordered over $500 worth of stuff (2 different times) from them and it all got here in one piece, and no unknown charges on the credit card. I don't care what ya'll say, I'm still doing business with them.

Wow, on your place I would immediately cancell my card and change account.
Keep on pushing your luck, you just might have to learn the hard way.

I signed up for that free card thing my frist and only time I ordered from the (around 7 months ago), then I read the small print about the phone card charge of 61 when my order arrived. I got the PIN number a week later and canceled that crap before they charged me. I'm sure there are some people who missed that super fine print and got charged though.

This is grevious stuff. It reminds me of a pop up I got after buying a magazine online. One misclick trying to close out the window and I got another popup welcoming me to cleaverisland.com. Just what I needed. There was no opting out at that point online, even an email to the cust svc did no good.I later found out my CC number was shared by the magazine service and the card was charged.Only waiting in line on the 800 number got that removed even though they knew I didnt want the service and had never used it....
I bet we see many more things like this phone scam in the future.

Did some research. Tiger is owned by Systemmax, which owns many more companies and does around 1.5Billion in sales a year (assuming there are no accounting errors) Here is the link.

To All:

Tiger has a marketing relationship with Phonelinx, a phone card company. every customer that places an order (either on-line or via the phone) is offered a "FREE" 15 day trial to use the phone card for their long distance.

Customers are told up front (either verbally or in writing) about all the conditions, fine print, etc.

Customers that say yes, or accept the Free offer, are sent a welcome package by Tiger - again with all the info & details on how to cancel if they like. Tiger also sends the customer an email with the order info & how to cancel.

Based on the customers approval, Tiger then sends the customer info (name, address, cc info) to the phone card company.

The Phone card company then sends out the phone card directly to the customer, & after 15 days starts billing the customers.

Customers can cancel at any time with Phonelinx, or if they are having trouble can contact Tiger to assist them.

We have been running this program since Q4 2001. We have had just a few complaints & taken care of each one. Prior to this program, we were running a similar promotion for 1 Free year of Magazines.

I would urge each of you to place a test order on Tiger's web site, where you will see the offer & all of the details for the promotion. Nothing is hidden.

Customers that click "Yes" to the free offer & do not read all of the details are usually the ones that complain - but they can still cancel at any time.

I hope this clears things up. If there are any additional questions - please do not hesitate to contact me directly via phone or email.

Sincerely,

Bruce Matthews

Straight from the crooks themselves. Guys inform yourself from independent sources, read. These people are conducting semilegal skeems since they have started. They grew big because of money they take from you and spend on marketing. They put you in their claws once and you'll pay eventually. It is sad they are allowed to do business.

That is not a quote, that is Bruce Mathews.

I just ordered the toshiba pccard drive from tiger today, I have bought a lot of stuff from tiger over the years, I bought a cyrix p150+ barebones kit from them many years ago, I liked their cases so much that I bought five more since then, as well as a few other things, the only negative thing I can say is that with one purchase of four cases I was supposed to get some free magazine subscriptions that never came, just as well, saved me the trouble of cancelling when the free year was up.

I dont expect to have any trouble with my order, but if I do I know how to handle it, dispute the charges and let the credit card company work it out.

All I know is I have seen, without exaggeration, SEVERAL THOUSAND complaints on various boards and sites about TigerDirect over the years. And many of them were from people who were diligent enough to make screen shots or had other tangible proof that they were taken advantage of and it was not their fault as TD tried to claim. Additionally, there are numerous other organizations (i.e. BBB branches, review websites, etc.) who have seriously negative reports on this company. Does anyone truly believe that ALL of the people are wrong and Tiger Direct is as innocent as they claim?!?! Of course, they are not always going to be running some marginally legal marketing program and even when they are they are going to have some "computer glitch" or other excuse accidentally sign-up some customers who chose NOT to sign up or opted-OUT of them marketing their info to others. They know better that to do these things all the time to all of the people. So yes, you might get lucky. But out of all the possible places you can spend your money, why take the chance that you aren't and have to spend months of aggravation to finally get your money back for something you didn't want?

Quote from resellerratings.com:

6/17/02 1:50 PM
My experience with this company was a complete nightmare. I have ordered from them before (19" monitor - nicely priced and arrived quickly...no problems) With this positive experience, I thought what the heck - I'll purchase my Athlon XP2100 computer from them too. Here's where the nightmare began. First they said it was in-stock, and would ship same day (pre-configured system). Well it didn't, and not for the next two weeks as it was "being custome built for me". After numerous phone calls, no response to voice-mails or emails, I began to get nervous and cancelled the order. Since it didn't ship, I was told no problem...order cancelled. Then the speakers arrived (I refused shipment), then separate RAM arrived (refused shipment), then the infamous CALLING Card (free for one-month....right..cancelled with confirmation # and still got billed for $61.02 LD charge) The the system arrived and they refused to take it back because they don't issue RMAs on computers. After countless calls, voicemails, and demanding to talk to any supervisor (all of whom were always "in a meeting"), did the computer finally get credited to my account. Still they tried to charge me $49.76 for shipping charges. Another two weeks passed with more phone calls to finally get this credit. About 7 weeks after ordering, I finally got everything credited. I strongly urge you to stay away from this company. How they stay in business with this level of service is cause for a study by The Wharton School of Business. Be warned.

Those of you that are so confident in Tiger Direct I wish you good luck, check resellerratings.com for Tiger Direct.
It is true that some people do not learn before they get burned. But enough about me, I posted enough in this thread.

"I would urge each of you to place a test order on Tiger's web site, ..."

Yeah, shure! Get real, pleeeeeeeeeeeeze.

I have ordered from Tigerdirect without problem but reading about all the problems and Tigerdirect's choice to fail to properly deal with their problems, I can say with all certainty that I will not do business with them any more.

I guess nobody really wants to file a class action suit against the company for themselves and on behalf of the people who got ripped off.

Orlando Tiger, I haven't bought anything from Tigerdirect although many times I was tempted to. I was just bringing up the possibility of a class action for those who did get scammed.

darn it. i just bought something from them literally minutes ago.
i needed 2 webcams and ordered 2 Intel Easy PC Cam from sportsline.catalogcity.com. It turns out that those webcams will be coming from TigerDirect. I didn't see any thing about phone card throughout my ordering process tho. I will be pissed if I get fraud charges. I am leaving the US and will probably not be able to check my AMEX statement regularly...

I was charged $54.90 from some company named globalinx after I made a $20 purchase with tiger direct.

I guess I will have to dispute this and never shop with tiger direct again.

Unfortunately, I don't think you guys have a hairs chance getting anything out this. If you neglect to read the information presented to you regarding a free offer, it is not the fault of the seller to make you read the notice. They can only pop up the window, you have to read it and decline it. I would think those that have purchased items in the past would understand what 'free offer' really means. AOL is 'Free' for the first 750 hours or so and then they start billing you.

If you guys declined the offer and were still charged, then you have a case. If you chose to accept the offer and not read the fine print then you have to swallow those charges. If you accepted the offer and cannot read, then you have bigger problems that $61.20.

You've got Bruce's number. Give him a jingle if you feel you were wronged.

My point is simply that I specifically opted out of the "free card" promotion because i read all the fine print when I'm buying stuff, and yet I got charged, I have no problem if I was an idiot and didnt read the fine print, but it pisses me off when I specifically opt out of this crap and they still sign me up for it. I always knew tigerdirect was a bit shady, but never to the point of selling my cc info to others.

Read Cnn.com and they recommended cardcops.com to check if your credit card is stolen. Not sure if this is a reliable service, but all you have to do is to insert your credit number, no expiration date or any other details. Those who think you wanna check if your credit card number has been stolen.

P.S Going to check my cards now. Will report if system is safe.

Hope that helps. Good luck everyone.
