*WARNING* Amazon.com steals your money!

Hi everybody,

here is my sad Christmas story:

I went with the MCI deal and got the $150 gift certificate with amazon.com When I was browsing online I thought I better get all my shopping there for the gifts I planned to buy. SO I sold 2 of my PDAs on ebbay and asked my buyers to send me a gift certificate @amazon.com, because I was going to buy some gifts this holidays season.
So I spend about $600 there to order a camcorder, GPS and a monitor. These were all supposed to be gifts for friends and family.

They send me the GPS but then it all started:
they canceled without any warning my camcorder. Trying to reach the big bad amazon.com is impossible so I said I will have to go to a B&M to get one... But my $$ remained as gift certificate @amazon.com so I will have to sell them @ebbay and loose about %10 for the transaction. ((

Today, I got one more email: they canceled my monitor too!!! It was Samsung 753Df and they have 755Df in stock!!! Couldn;t they just asked for the extra $ and ship the thing on time for me.
The best part is that they have not gave my back my money for the monitor! They have not credited my gift certificate balance!!!

And now I AM 'the bad friend' to fail giving out cool gifts and on top of it they are trying to steal my money.

I will never stop yelling at all the forums I see in this planet about amazon.com and I hope they burn and die in 2001.

Take a look at you balances...

iz999,

Call Amazon at 1-800-201-7575, their CSR's are EXCELLENT at solving problems such as these and I'm sure they'll make you happy.

if you paid with a gc, it might not show in your account balance. put an item in the cart and go to checkout and it should say "apply $$$ to purchase" and it should be checked with the correct ammount.

Off the topic.
People need to remember that the ecommerce business is just beginning so there will be occasional problems. I believe Amazon.com had nearly 30,000,000 purchases the holiday season. A few hundred people will be disappointed.

Always remember people will go out of there way to humiliate a company's reputation. I bet the other 28,000,000 orders went through seemingly perfect.

Notice the Junior member status we will never see this person post again.

Merry Christmas

What friend would think that of you? Perhaps not much of a friend.

Anyway, I don't think the Internet is the best resource for last minute shopping. I know they will accomodate the last-minute buyer, but there's always the weak link of delivery (UPS/USPS) to contend with. I ordered stuff from eToys on 12/20 w/regular delivery because it wasn't anything for Christmas, but can you believe they delivered on Sunday? They shipped Fed-ex and it was supposed to be del'd on Friday at that. Same thing last year, all the MyTampon'ers weeping and wailing about ToysRus, good grief if you can't order a couple of weeks before the date you need something, pry your ass off the chair and go face the malls!

Not that much of this applies to your case, but I thought I'd share my sentiments anyway Anywho, call the 800# Alex gave you and good luck, I think their CS is pretty good there.

Sorry to hear this happened to you. I do at least a grand in transactions online monthly and Amazon CSR's by far are the friendliest and most helpful. Give them a call and I'd bet my bottom dollar that they will resolve your problem ASAP.

Between this worthless post, the one about the dead cop, and the
joke (I guess) about "free presents under your tree", Anandtech
has on Christmas turned to the on-line equivalent of a lump of
coal in your stocking...Wotta waste...No deals, just whiners and
off-topic-ers...

Never thought I'd say this, but bring back the strick mods!

Of course I need to give my 2 cents here. I ran into some problems too with Amazon.com this xmas. I too waited til the last week of xmas to order something (so this mess is partially my fault). But I ordered a 45gb ibm hd from amazon to build a computer for my niece for xmas. It stated it would be shipped in 24 hours. Two days later it still hadn?t shipped, so I contacted amazon via email, received a reply back the next day saying it was out of stock, but I would have it shipped next day once they secured it from the vendor (guaranteed by the 19th). Then the next day I receive an email saying it was cancelled. SO my 45 gb hard drive that I ordered for 150 shipped was cancelled. I sent email back requesting action, and received no reply on three separate occasions. SO then I called and talked to someone who assured me that I would receive a call back later in the day. 2 days later still no call. SO I called them back, and demanded that the 60gb hard drive be substituted for my inconvience. SO the final outcome was this! I am going to receive an ibm 60gb hard drive tomorrow for 150 bucks, I had a spare hard drive to build my nieces computer, and persistence pays off. The service I received was sporadic from them, but the final outcome was satisfactory!

Regards,

noodle

Agreed. Amazon CSRs are very helpful. Got my 27" TV delivered before Christmas even when I had a misprint in the address. After I called Amazon and reported my problem, I also sent an email (just in case) and a second SCR responded personally telling me the problem was fixed.

The gcs don't show up in the acct. balance, though, which can be nerve racking!

Amazon is developing a nasty habit of accepting orders for "in stock" or "available to ship in 2-3 days" merchandise then a couple of days later cancelling it. They used to be much more reliable for ordering, I don't know what's going on wrt that lately.
