If nothing shows up while recording but records fine then that could be a LCD problem. In my case (see my comment above about my Elura50) What I see on LCD while recording is what exactly is recorded (several vertical lines and cannot make out the picture at all).

This past weekend, as I was shooting some pics of my daughters basketball game, I noticed a fuzzy image on the screen. This happened twice. I really didn't thing much of it till reading OP's post. I jus got off the phone with Canon and their sending me a prepaid label so that I ship my camera to the nearest facility.

I had this problem with my old A70, i sent it in and got the updated A75 as an upgrade, its refurbished, this was a week before this article came out. I knew that it was teh CCD problem.. but whatever. Wonder if i can get a refund on my 100 bucks i spent to upgrade to the A75.
Not sure if my second cam the S1 IS has the problem, since it has teh same sensor. THe A75 works fine so far. I wonder if my ex gf's camera, an A60 hasthat issue.. what's the fix.. who do we call.

Well what did it to my Girlfriend's A70 is one year in aberdeen scotland, and then a year in houston. All the humidity got to it.

Woo woo woo ! This is exactly what has happened to my Minolta. pretty but smeared images that look very artistic.

My A70 had this problem once but I attributed it to accidentally dropping it. I had it fixed as it was still under warranty. No problems for over a year now, but nice to know it can still get repaired. Thanks.

A big Thank You! to RideFree for posting this, and the good folks at Canon for doing these post-warranty repairs. My Canon A70 (a couple years old) just developed this problem. If I hadn't seen this thread I would have just sworn a bit and dug deep to buy a new camera.

Two minutes on the phone with Canon and a prepaid shipping label is on my way to repair this for free. What a class act Canon is!

I have a Canon A70 but it hasn't shown any signs of this yet. Should I try to get it repaired or is that dishonest? I'm just worried they will stop offering this and then it will start happening.

For those who have had theirs repaired, how long did it take?

I have a Dimage S404 which does not currently experience this problem, however, I find it odd that the S414 is on the list which from everything I had previously read used the same hardware and basically was a firmware updated s404. It could be newer batches they used in the S414 had the problem, whatever, just betting it's also an S404 possibility.

Well, at least it's still working after 6500+ pictures and 3+yrs can't really complain I guess.

Same here. Thanks for the A70 Repair link. Thanks OP. Good thing that I didn't toss my A70 after getting pissed at Canon for repeated failures. They continued to fix the CCD connections, but never changed the sensor. Now I will have a functioning camera again.

Thanks for searching. I wonder how I missed this thread. I will now have an A70 and A95 and my wife is now wanting a DSLR. Too many cameras.
