Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to share my experience with all of u who like to experiment like I do
if you happen to installed 6.66 SW ide driver, in search of better performance don't!
I've had to replace two hd, and possibley 3rd on the way, due to this driver.
Over a peroid of time, it's pretty random, your HD will generate unusual loud noise, followed delay write errors, and bad sector and corruption then after format and rebuild it will be back to normal, how over problem does return and will start having reallocating sector error (The loud clicking noise) and basiclly send ur HD back to RMA, currently I Am running 6.67 which fixes the issue, but ur HD does suffer, and it's always on the HD dat's connected to disk0 and nothing else. If you tried and your HD doesn't fail (lucky you btw) check ur cpu usage for unusually high %, my recent HD, that I finally figured out wht's wrong with, can pass diagnostic test but permanently failing smart status is currently casuing usual high cpu usage due to Hardware Interrupts.

Hope it helps all of u and save the HDs if you want more info or have questions ask away, I will do my best to help out, if it wasn't for the nice people on this form, I wouldn't have figured all of this out.

So in the mean time good luck with experimenting and share your findings everyone.

I can confirm everything you mentioned. Corrupted hdds to disk0, 100% cpu usage and random freezes/reboots. However I did not notice loud clicking noise. All the problems have been solved by bypassing the SW IDE driver. (You must thoroughly clean out old drivers and reformat)

the driver maybe corrupts data but it certainly doesn't produce bad sectors or loud noise...

I just stay away from the IDE drives period. I just use Microsofts drivers. Never had a problem with them. The ones from NVIDIA always seemed much slower to me.

it doesn't at first but if u try and saving it by booting into safe mode, and force a dismount using chkdsk it will seem like it fixed the issue, the data corrupt does lead to drive sorta spinning out.
