Does Gateway have crazy coupons/discounts like Dell? Been waiting for the Dell 2005fpw, but this has one feature I really want that the Dell doesn't have, component input. Great for Playstation 2/Xbox/DVD/HDTV watching.

Hopefully there will be a review on this comparing to the Dell soon. And hope this means a price war between the two. BenQ also announced a 20" widescreen LCD.

Got one yesterday! Very big, very clear, very bright. It's got a faroudja chip in it, and it makes the video seem smoother in scaling. Good stuff, got it from Best Buy.

Other companies are finally making 20 inch 1680x1050 monitors. I Think Benq has one coming out, HP Has a nice one but expensive, Apple was the first far as I know, 2005fpw of course, Samsung has one or will have one soon. THe best part about getting one of these from a store like bestbuy is that you can probably convince them to do a dead pixel test or let you do it before you buy it, don't have to wait a few weeks to get it then decide whether 2 dead pixels bothers you for example.

Maybe I should sell my 2005fpw too?

Specs look good. HDCP compliant, too. Looks like only one DVI input though. Would be nice if it had 2.

3 year warranty. I wonder if Gateway will be in business 3 years from now? I got burned by MonitorsDirect/Cornerstone that way.

Its about time a nicely priced widescreen panel started showing up. The specs got me excited. Im not giving up my 4ms one just yet but maybe the wife needs an upgrade and I can have this one.

The hottest thing about this is that it has HDCP circuitry built-in. It's TRULY HDTV-ready (with the exception that you won't get a true lossless 1080p image thanks to the 1050 limitation of the panel) - once DHCP goes live a lot of people who wanted to play HD-DVDs/Blu-Ray PLUS watch HDTV programming on other HDTV-CAPABLE displays are gonna be in for a rude awakening.

The 2005 and 2405 DON'T have HDCP, and there's no way to add it using a tuner that has it - it has to be integrated into the monitor's inputs itself.

So guys will this be much better than the FPW 2405 with 12 ms response time? I understand its 3 inches smaller and 400$ cheaper, but I still like the bigger screens. What about two of these in dual monitor setup? beats the FPW 2405 right?

Is it ready? Yes.

Is it ideal? No.

Reason: it's not TRUE 1080p, so you won't be experiencing lossless images. Also, this display only has one DVI in, which means if you want to connect the XB360 and PS3 to it, you'll need some kind of switching device like a receiver or something like this.

Granted, Gefen's stuff is always expensive - but using the LONE DVI connector for a computer, XB360, and PS3 would be rather unwieldy. Also, you won't really need to keep your PS2 around - the PS3 is evidently fully backward compatible. But if you wanted redundancy you could always plug that into the Component inputs.

Thanks for the info, but I am not sure how that compares to DELL 2405 FPW, As far as I know, it also have a single DVI.

I found these info:

he official announcement isn?t until Thursday, but a few stores have quietly started selling the FPD2185W, Gateway?s brand new 21-inch, 1680 x 1050 widescreen LCD monitor. They?re pricing this one at $599 ? which means they?re more or less going after the 2005fpw, Dell?s much-loved 20-inch LCD. And even though the FPD2185W doesn?t quite have the edge in price (if you dig around you can find a 2005fpw for way less than $599; Ryan paid $345 for his), it does have at least one major advantage over the competition ? it just happens to be one of the first LCD monitors to support HDCP, or High Definition Copy Protocol. HDCP is the embodiment of lameness, but at least having a compatible display means that you won?t have an obsolete LCD on your hands when Windows Vista arrives or when all this next-gen high-def gear starts showing up in stores and you want to watch a movie on a protected high-def Blu-ray discs or HD DVD (Stephen Speicher explains it all pretty well here). Anyway, the FPD2185W also has a integrated Faroudja chip for enhanced video processing, a built-in 4 port USB hub, a 1000:1 contrast ratio, 178 degree viewing angle (both vertical and horizontal), and an 8ms pixel response time.

I'd rather have the immenseness of the 2405. 1920x1200 is just too awesome. The 2005 looks so small compared to it. I've used the hp 2105 as well and still, once you make the move up to 23" or 24" its really hard to go back down. Besides, the picture on the 2405 is mindblowing enough for me.

I am just worried about gaming on the FPW 2405, next gen games like COD2 are demanding and even the 7800 GTX can't give amazing FPS wihth all eye candy turned on... plus I can't see any cool deals on the Dell monitor anymore. I can get two of the gateway and use dual setup with alittle morethan the price of the 2405 FPW plus I will get extra space.

Well I need to read more reviews on it specially gaming.....

Too bad the current Best Buy coupon doesn't specifically list monitors in the computer accesories section. I might give it a try anyway. For $540 this gets really competitve with the dell deals.

I see it listed at 600$ at bestbuy, how I can get it for 540$?

I have heard that it does not, *BUT* you might be able to convince the high school kid working checkout otherwise...

If anyone successfully uses it on a monitor let us know.
