Was it a dream or real?

So last night I had a dream that I was eating potato chips. When I finished the bag I licked the flavoring off my fingers. Instantly I woke up licking my fingers but I was in bed. I turned on my side and went back to sleep.

The more I think about it though it's entirely possible that I didn't wake up, but I dreamt that I woke up because it seems really odd that I was actually licking my fingers.

This has happened before. I had a dream I was playing tennis and I woke up swinging my arm. When I was very little my parents locked my in my room because a few times I woke up and couldn't find my stuffed animal and I was upset. They later found my stuffed smurf downstairs multiple times and they knew I had to have been sleep walking to get it down there. That and they found me in various different rooms in the morning where I had walked and laid back down.

Anyways this is concerning me because I no longer live with anyone. When my g/f stays over she says I sometimes speek full, intelligable sentences in my sleep and a few times I have even had a conversation with her before she realized I was asleep. One time she woke up because I was feeling her up under her shirt. She slapped me and I said something about motorcycles and she realized I was sleeping.

Also, in highschool I used to get made fun of at church retreats because people would come in my room and start talking to me. I would sit up with my eyes open and play crazy 8s with Magic Cards. The first night I did this I really freaked them out, but eventually they thought it was fun to play tricks on me and once they got me to go upstairs and slip in bed with one of the girls.

Anyone here sleep walk? Would this concern you?

haha, it seems you have some of the best sleepwalking situations.

that would suck, though. I'd hate to know what happened to you in college if your friends found out.

Heh tell me about it. I actually mentioned it to my uncle who's a Dr and he showed me this article about couples where they have had sex every morning for like 15 years and one of the partners mentions it to the other eventually during the day and the second person ahd NO idea it was happening! It was cool I'll see if I can find it when I get home because the google search would set off every alarm here at work.

You just remember when you wake up. Well actually that's inaccurate. You're experiencing whatever is going on. When you actually wake up it's a terrible feeling and you're groggy and alot of times I forget where I am until I realize I was just dreaming about playing golf or whatever. At the time though it does not feel like a dream. It's not that I wake up and I say "Hey I had a great dream I remembered", it's more like "Ugh wtf where am I? Oh dang, I was dreaming"

when i was about 5 years old i got home from watching a play with my family very late (midnight) never had stayed up so late, so had some family from out of town that came to see the play so i ended up sleeping on the floor of the living room, my aunt got the couch. and she said that about 2am i stood up and started running up and down the hall. for like 2 hrs. i would do like 10-15 laps, then stop and look out the window stearing at the stars (wish such profound face, my aunt mentioned)...she said she tried to wake me and reason with me, but i would not respond and kept running......that morning my feet hurt so much, i was barefoot!!!! never had an episode after that though.....once only..kinda weird if you tell me.

My brother would wake up and start talking to me sometimes when we were kids, but then he'd start rambling on about nonsense and I'd realize he was sleeping, he'd sleep walk a lot also and I found him eating cereal in the kitchen while standing when we were kids, I said something to him like "what are you doing standing in the kitchen eating cereal in the middle of the night?" and he snapped out of it and was like "how did I get here" and said he was dreaming that he was getting ready for school and was certain that it was morning until I showed him it was the middle of the night.

You can experience a "dream in a dream" effect without sleepalking (I never sleepwalk).
It creeps me out every time. I'm dreaming, then I wake up, put on my clothes, go to the bathroom, and then comes the shocker: I'm still dreaming! I feel confused when I wake up (for real) and recall the event.

I usually have no trouble sorting what's real and what isn't, although it has occured to me once that I considered a conversation from a dream of mine reality.

That sounds like me. I'm just wondering if there could be problems. I read an article where a guy sleep jogged down a highway against traffic and got killed. Aparently he had been picked up before by cops and they woke him up. He bought locks and stuff to prevent it but aparently unlocked them in his sleep.
