I saw it! There wasn't an elf in sight!!! No wonder it sucked!!
It seems most people can't handle a movie that just has an interesting dynamic between characters.

FYI, the term "jap" is equal to "ch1nk" or "g00k", it is NOT short for japanese, just like "ch1nk" is not short for chinese.

That is interesting, my wife is Japanese, and of course, I know many Japanese people. Never has anyone who is Japanese that I have talked with uses that term as an abbreviation, nor has anyone Japanese (whom I know) thinks that using the word "jap" is an acceptable way of saying japanese.
It is a derogatory term IMO plain and simple.
Why is it that the word "ch1nk" is banned here at anand, it's just short for chinese.

Why is Jew short for Jewish, but Jap isn't short for Japanese?

I hope you're a young person because you didn't recognize my question was rhetorical.Originally posted by: CChaos

Interesting. You asked the question after he answered it. The reason is that Japanese people do not refer to themselves that way and find it offensive. Just because a word looks similar, does not mean it has the same connotation. I hope you are a young person because I don't think an adult should require an explanation here.
To the OP, I'm not sure how Lost In Translation makes fun of Japanese culture. Perhaps you perceived it that way because that's your reaction to Japanese culture. I thought this was a fairly simple and honest movie, though I imagine many people were confused at the lack of explosions and film cliches.
