Yes agricultural understanding and knowledge is really a technology advantage. I had misunderstood things before my post, treated "technology" to mean "guns". Very well said on your behalf!

Yeah. It was even blind luck that the Europeans had a "technological" advantage in medicine/health (I say medicine but it was the fact that they'd been exposed to and developed resistance/immunity to certain disease) too. The confluence of all their various technological advantages was overwhelming which is why the Europeans were able to colonize pretty much everywhere. And big surprise that mixed with the nationalism led to very serious problems.

Oh and my last bit in my previous post wasn't aimed at you, but rather the people who act like admitting/realizing the things that were done mean that one somehow loses their appreciation for their current situation. I'd say knowing actually enhances my appreciation of how lucky I am to live where I do.

but it's a moot point anyway - there is no chance that european, middle eastern or asian nations would have just left 2 continents full of untapped land and resources on the table.

it is crazy to think that if nobody had come from europe, australia or north america could quite possibly still be in stone or iron ages to this day. that blows my mind.

There were skirmishes, yes. However, they were NOT attempting to exterminate other groups/tribes.

I've never heard about them having sporting events involving the killing of others. I am really interested in reading more about this. Where did you read this?

I wholeheartedly agree, attempts at conquering another nation are wrong, no matter the ethnicity of the "conquerors." Flawed as he was, Wilson's concepts of self-determination apply across the board to every single nation in the universe, regardless of ethnicity.

I agree, attempts at rewriting history are dangerous. However, in the instance of white/Native American interaction, I believe that it is simply a fact of more information being revealed, fewer actions remaining hidden, and the resulting shift in opinion concerning the causal motives rather than any attempted alteration of historical fact to suit one's beliefs. Trust me, I would much rather believe--it'd be much more convenient to believe!-- that we had NOT committed atrocities. It's just becoming increasingly evident that this is not the case.

I've always wondered if the Indians mounted a united front against the invaders, how long would they have lasted? In the beginning they had the numbers but lacked the technology. I've always found it amazing that Cortez was able to kill off the Aztecs with only a handful of men. Yes, smallpox contributed to many deaths. It was still an amazing feat.

War is the way of life for all people in all of history. Native Americans were no different than Europeans in that regard.
