I used to work in a maintenance shop at the college family housing apartment complex.
My boss there was a quake addict and had 2 pc's or sometimes 3 hooked together in the shop for Quake 2 games. We would basically play winner stays. Two deaths and you were done and somebody else took their turn.
In the summer's it was my boss, his assistant, and about 10 student workers.
It was the most cake job I've ever had.

8am arrive at work.
8:30 -10:00 Go deal with a couple of maintenace requests. Things like clogged sinks and broken mini-blinds.
10:00 - 12:00 Play Quake 2 (1 vs 1 deathmatches.)
12:00 - 1:00 lunch
1:00 - 2:00 Play some more quake 2.
2:00 - 4:00 Deal with a couple more maintenance requests.
4:00 - 5:00 Get in some more quake 2.

This was my first real experience with first-person shooters, and I was hooked quickly. I picked it up really fast and within a couple of weeks, the only person who could beat me was my boss. I was deadly with the railgun and the rocket launcher. When my boss wasn't around, I would often stay on the whole time, beating one after another of my opponents. Before I left that job, I had gotten good enough to even beat my boss about half the time. The funniest thing was finding out that a 53 year old guy who was basically a carpenter/electrician/plumber for a living, was also a serious gamer.

Man, with the advent of broadband(still on a 56k dialup here) it has gone totally to hell for me. But it wasnt always like this......I used to play GLQuake (ahh, the mammaries) on one server and the guy had the opening level, where you can choose the difficulty you wanted to play. Then you jumped into the portal and hit the three rooms there. Total friggin chaos with about 25 people jammed into a tiny board. I played for so damn long, that I was continuously called a bot, which made me chuckle. Man, I still dont think that any game then or now, was as fun as that. Of course , it being new to me and all, it would seem to be the best.

Everyone was hobbled by the same 400-600(!) or so ping, and you always got the freezer who had so much lag that he would continuously die and respawn, only to get blasted to hell over and over. Too much fun.

I remember the first time I ever played Quake 2 online. It was insane. Much different having 20 people on the same map instead of 2 or 3.
I think I still prefer those good old-fashioned 1 v1 or 2v2 games though.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 was my bane. I used to dedicate weekends to "training" not just practicing. When I had to start wearing forearm braces and couldn't type anymore, I gave it up cold-turkey.
I should have quit when my friends would refer to the game as playing "Smack" --I was a junky

RQ3, Natural Selection, Action Quake 2, Quake 2, Quake 3, WF2, Doom, pretty much all FPS games. Ok ok, so I like to brag a bit when it comes to games Can't help it.

EDIT: Just to make my ego even bigger (feels good, since this is a brag-friendly thread ), I was in a top 10/top 5 clan for Natural Selection until it broke up and I was in the best clan in the world for RQ3, and one time hitting best in the world statistically. I think I'll shut up now before my ego gets so big it pops

Dude, I need the original version. I bought it and lost it a while back. I can't find anywhere to download it or anything. I'm tempted to go out and buy it. Was much fun.

Rainbow six : Rogue Spear. I only had 4 months experience yet i could challenge the 5 year veterans as equals. (No one could outsnipe me in Bunkers)

Sega NHL 95: I was 7 at the time yet i dominated my friends at that game, I gave them the old skate on the side and cut to the center and shoot.(Goalies were unable to block it)

007 Golden eye for N64. In that game the most glorious moment was when me (around 11 at the time) was up against my 2 uncles who were skilled in that game and i killed them both. After my victorious dance i got a swift punch in the gut from one of the uncles and i decided playing them again would threaten my health.
