Washer and Dryer Recommendations?

Need to pick up a washer & dryer (electric) in the next couple days. Can anyone recommend a good, reasonably priced (would like to be ~1000 or less) set that I can get at the usual places (Lowes, Home Depot, Best Buy)?

Surprisingly few places to get unbiased reviews of this stuff online!

love my roper. i think it is the whirlpool budget brand. nothing fancy, but solid long-term reviews and they are cheap. i dont need anything special in my washer/dryer so i got new ones last year on a holiday sale, i think it was like $600ish for the pair

I just picked up a nothing fancy top loader Kenmore floor model from Sears a few months ago for $400 delivered after my super old washer died. Had mediocre reviews but a lot of those seemed to come from people that switched from the old agitator style washer like myself but didn't read the directions about how to load the new style, complaints about the sound, and complaints about it taking longer to wash. I haven't had any issues with it so far.

I got Roper full size washer and dryer for around $600 including delivery and installation from Loews about two years ago. They meet my needs and I have not had any problems with them. Your milage may differ....

Well, maybe. It's not the top priority, but I don't want to be wasteful.

Speed Queen now makes units for residential use. They are great quality and super fast. We've had ours for over a year and no issues.
