Since it's almost that time of year again, does anyone:

1. have any tips on camera settings etc. for capturing cherry blossom magic?

2. want to try to meet one day during bloom (preferably during the week - weekends will be a nightmare) for a DC ATDVC (to borrow GT's terminology) to snap some cherry blossom pics?

what is modified about it. Ive heard people using it for infra red but i dont think that would have allowed you to take those types of pics.

With flower nature type pics I like upping the saturation to bring out a bit of pop.

The infrared blocker was removed from the camera's sensor. I've switched to Nikon since then and no longer have an IR camera. Boooo.

I'd love to get together for some blossoms actions, but definitely can't during the week. I went on a Saturday morning (VERY early) last year and had no problem with crowds.

Anyone know how extensive the damage was from the storms this winter? Heard something about it on the news but didn't pay too much attention.

The full blooms can be different from year to year depending on weather patterns. I usually pay attention to the park ranger's website for bloom information and then time my visits accordingly, hopefully when the weather is good and the wind is low.

that said, one of my best visits a few years back was on a windy day where the sky was literally pink with cherry blossom petals flying everywhere. it was quite surreal... didn't have a camera with me though.

I was downtown last weekend. Buds are just starting to appear on some trees. As of March 4 NPS is calling for April 3-8 to be peak season. I'll put my money on April 1.

I would love to do a ATDVC meetup for the Cherry Blossoms....I have been going down for a few years...because of the positioning, sunrise is one of the best times as you can get some really awesome cross-lighting. I will be OOT until the 3/27 but am available anytime afterward.
