LOL what??

why have a sign that saying you can park for 2hours from 9a-6p if there's free parking from 6p-9a?

why not have a sign that says "unlimited free parking forever"

or why not just remove the sign.

the sign is there to tell you when you CAN park.

if there's no sign, you can park
if there's a sign, you can park during the limited hours only.

here in Columbus, some streets have signs that state something along the line as follows:
"Parking Permit X Required Between 8am-5pm".
What does that "Imply" to you?

you are lucky you did not get your car towed, be happy it was only $100 you had to pay. Next time you run into a
situation in a city like this, ask a tourist, they may be able to help you out with reading and understanding the sign.

for those of you to blind to notice theflyingpig is a troll and is just being an ass for the sake of being one

the OP is right to complain, the parking sign is no different then other ones worded in the same way.

Where i used to live in Boston there were lots of "no left turn between 7-12AM" at lights on busy streets to keep rush hour congestion down

after 12am you were free to make all the left turns you wanted at that light

Well aware, but EricMartello started the thread with some racist trolling so I think it's fitting that he be trolled. Maybe the mods will notice all of the personal insults in this thread and take the opportunity to ban some trolls?

Op is an idiot, every parking sign I see in DC has the standard "no stopping" M-F during rush hour sign.

edit: if I have to, I'll snap a pic at lunch today.

I agree with the OP. In NYC if parking isn't restricted specifically by a sign, hydrant or yellow line it's free parking.

Now there may be special rules at the national mall but no one has proven that.

The ticket sucks but, not paying it could get your license suspended. I got stopped for 45 in a 35 while on vacation in Florida. I got the ticket at the beginning of a two week vacation and quite honestly, I forgot about it by the time I returned home. Six weeks later, I received a notice in the mail that my license was suspended.

A ticket is a moving violation and its generally considered a criminal offense, a parking violation is not. I can't see them suspending a license over parking tickets because they don't even verify that you receive the ticket. They just issue it and anyone could be driving the car. $100 fine is not happening for a place I'll never be parking in again.

i also got a parking ticket in D.C. once that i didn't pay and my license ended up suspended as well. of course, i didn't find that out until i got pulled over one night and they wouldn't let me drive my vehicle home.

i'd pay it or fight it.

So full of fail.

3 hours between 8am and 4pm means ANY 3 hour block that falls within the hours of 8am and 4pm.

not.. 3 hours starting anytime between 8am and 4pm

were you born missing a brain?

I guess I didn't read the fine print on the sign - oh wait, THERE IS NONE. Just like there is no sign that says no parking.

I take it you missed the part about my car being the only one there with a ticket? CLEARLY parking is allowed past 4pm and clearly the 3 hour time limit only applies 8am to 4pm. Seems to me like you're lacking in the common sense department. If there is some kind of unwritten rule about parking, all of the cars and not just mine should have been ticketed.

Did you huff paint as a child?

if there's no sign, you can park
if there's a sign, you can park during the limited hours only.

that's how parking is on my philly streets around me. "2 hour parking between 8am-5pm except on weekends" means any 2 hours during that time, and any amount of parking afterwards (until 8am hits again).

it's just like a u-turn or turning on red. unless there is something that explicitly says "no U-turn" or "no turn on red" then technically you're allowed to do so, IIRC.

now, it may be the case that the OP misread the sign or did not see a second sign indicating additional parking rules. however, based on his claims and my experience in philly, i'm inclined to agree.

lol.

you do that. she's been dead for 9 years.

after you get out of jail for not paying your parking ticket, you can go back to jail for a long time for necrophilia, grave vandailsm and trespassing.

Grave vandalism? Oh we know you keep her corpse in your bedroom right next to your smurfette realdoll.

I was almost on your side... because I have some parking signs right near my building that say the same thing sort of. 2 hr parking 8-6. After 6 you can park all night.

But that comeback was too lame. I for one might be interested in a smurfette real doll. .. I grew up with the smurfs.

True but either way the OP is correct and he shouldn't have been ticketed.

Wrong.

where do you live that you haven't seen

2hr parking 8AM to 5 pm means unlimited parking after 5PM and before 8 AM

I live in the DC area and these signs are all over the place

Pic of the entire sign post.

The stupidity continues.

His logic isnt stupid at all. It says, you can park here for 3 hours between the hours of 8 and 4. It does not say you cannot park here before 8 or after 4, but it says they enforce a 3 hour parking session between 8 and 4. Where I live, in BFE Kansas, that would mean that you can park there before 8 and after 4 as long as you want unless otherwise posted.
Otherwise, there would be notification that the parking area is closed before 8 and after 4.

LOL... maybe you need to go back to Driver's ed.

There was an area that said I could park up to 3 hours between from 8am to 4pm

This is an IMPLIED NO PARKING from 4:01pm to 7:59am.

This is stated in every DMV manual i've ever seen.

No, thats not implied at all. Whats implied is that the parking area has a 3 hour parking window enforced from 8-4.. thats all thats implied. And unless it specifically says you cant park there from 4:01 pm to 7:59 am, then the OP is in the right.

$100 is cheap

Was $200 here in Chicago, Mayor Daley just raised fines to $350 because the city is $550 million in the hole.

I got one for expired tag and they hit me twice in the same week.

3 days later hit me with another one.

$700 in ticket cost plus $200 to renew my tag.

I'm personally funding the city of Chicago.

So when you get in front of me and moving your ass slow you know why I will be honking my horn on your fucking ass. It is MY road.
