Coinbase is currently being scrutinized because they have a contract with the government (the government is having them hold all the crypto they've confiscated) and they donated a bunch of money, which is straight up illegal. Some of it was given prior to that contract but a decent chunk was after.

Which the cryptobros have donated a ton to both, as they're desperately seeking to limit regulations and also to get legitimized (they really want to start offering financial stuff that they're currently not able to to try to boost their falling income as new investors to support their ponzi schemes are drying up). However the dickheads played their hands and went all in on Turmp and Republicans since he was willing to give them lip service and because they thought he was a shoe-in to win before Biden dropped out. This was likely also a key reason Vance won Turmp's casting couch call to be his running mate, the cryptobros have been pumping money to Turmp and I think they also thought the AI occultists would also (which they are as well), and Vance being Thiel's dicksicophant was a play at getting in good with the tech bro billionaires that are currently floundering running all the tech giants.

in context we are talking about individual donators, since the right loves making it about single individuals. it may be soros' pac but they dont list how much he has put in, whereas the individual donations are explicit. i was more surprised that peter thiel didnt show up on the list.

the crypto push is entertaining, us govt crackdown on altcoins could easily strand some of their investments from US banking meaning they would have to cash out their tokes in some other country which would probably defeat the goal of parking their money somewhere "safe". i imagine they would take a loss on the value of the token dropping due to being illegal in the US, the taxes due in the foreign country they cashed out, and the taxes when bringing it back into the US; so they are pretty motivated to keep altcoins legal.

the main problem is that the legit altcoins are being used for different things so regulations would need to be conditional. if you are a commodity like btc then current rules stand, if you are a Vcontracts like eth then maybe they need to be considered as a services provider, but a whole bunch are functioning as investment vehicles so they need to be regulated like stocks. if you have to follow sec rule on transparency and declarations, then all the scams and pumpNdump coins would probably dry up. they are trying to slip into the less regulated category of commodities when in reality they are investment systems promising returns which is heavily regulated.
