Thought I'd check in on you clowns. It seems it's been eleven years since I've been meaningfully active here. In that time I've:

- Moved four times, including across state lines.
- Got my PhD.
- Came out and entered a long term relationship.
- Changed jobs twice.

The 'highlight' of my day today was rescuing our kitten from entangling herself in the blinds, only to be followed by rescuing the other kitten (who fled scared from the first one's screaming) from the flue. 🤦‍♂️

Since 2013, at least some of the good things: finished a PhD and shortly thereafter left academia for greener pastures, moved to another state, got a dog, got married, traveled to a few cool places in the US and abroad.

It's hard to pick just one. Top places have been Milan, Yellowstone, and Paris.

Started going to jam sessions a decade ago, now I'm working on actually recording an album and playing some shows. Moved from the Midwest to the PNW. Came out of the closet. Still working for the same company-ish, 11 years ago is when an acquisition happened, and then another one eight years ago. I don't think it's likely to happen again with our current size.

Yellowstone is beautiful. My only 'Europe' reference is London, which was a lot of fun, but left me feeling that US cities weren't so dirty after all...

London HAS been there for quite some time (the year 47 AD!) to be fair.

Nice. I moved from the southwest to the PNW (with some stops along the way). Loving it up here.

Very true. It's more by comparison -- I didn't feel that London was super dirty, it's more that my first overseas trip was to Singapore, which left me feeling the US was kind of a shithole, and then London made me realize that I may have been visiting an outlier the first time.

London was pretty clean both times I went - 2015 and 2021. What was amusing was Paris this past March: we went during the ongoing protests over the changes in retirement, so garbage wasn't being routinely collected off the street. Reminded me of my days living in NYC, with garbage bags piled up on some sidewalks.

i loved it there though, more than any US city i've been to. and the british museum was worth multiple days.

one of these years i'll go back and travel across all of the UK, once the corona is gone.
