Did this thing just go up today? Haven't heard about it before. Some interesting tidbits from the site though.

I'll caveat that. I've definitely seen my fair share of assault weapons in gunshot trauma at my hospital. Granted you are right most are 9mm, .22 cal, .25 cal etc but we will get those wicked assault rifle type stuff at least once or twice a month. It's out there but generally reserved for when you wanna make sure that fellow gang member aint getting back up

You think any of those guns are registered though (or obtained legally for that matter)?

I have heard of gangs using AK47s, especially in cali... but vast majority of that stuff comes from mexico.

Probably not. And if the Ar-15's are banned, then they'll just keep using 9mm's. And if those are banned, they'll use knives.

Look at Russia or Ukraine. They have higher murder rates then the US, and guns are banned.

I hate the idea of mandatory military service because all of the dolts that would pass through. But if you gave them other options like the ones you mentioned I'd be all for it.

Just imagine, if fleets of American ships like the USS Mercy came to the rescue within 24-48 hours of any major natural disaster anywhere on the globe with the precision of the US Military. The world would love us! Heck, it would be a great government organization for retired military, high school drop outs, perhaps even the homeless. Then, along side them, 19-year-old "kids" learning about how the real world works outside of suburbia. Helping erect hospital walls in Africa or taking care of an AIDS-infected child or carrying bags of rice in Asia...would make responsible men (and women) out of those spoiled brats in no time.
