I don't have a problem with flying the US flag upside down in protest over current conditions. IMO, it's easy to defend the idea that this country is in dire peril.
The two "Marines" should have known better than to attempt to interfere in a US citizen's right to free speech.

The consequences of free speech have limits. You can disagree with what someone says...but you don't get a free pass to kick their ass for saying it.

I've flown my US flag upside down in protest before. One of my neighbors threatened to rip it down. I told him to go ahead...but they'd cart him away in an ambulance if he did.
My flag stayed put.

Talk about asshole-on-asshole crime. I dislike hippies but these Marines look like two simpleminded boneheads. If they were really such patriots, they would understand the importance of free speech.
I'm not going to make excuses for either side, and forgive me if this had been posted as I am not going to read all the comments, but the entire city of Albuquerque was tense during this. It was a huge demonstration that even had one of the Interstate's closed down, and it was all over what people felt was excessive force by the police department, as they had shot and killed a few people recently, the worst one being a man that they had just stunned and didn't give a chance to drop his knives before they shot him. Again, I am not excusing the marines or the protestors, just hoped that people would understand the issue a little more.
