I don't have a problem with flying the US flag upside down in protest over current conditions. IMO, it's easy to defend the idea that this country is in dire peril.
The two "Marines" should have known better than to attempt to interfere in a US citizen's right to free speech.
They have every right to disagree with the "hippie," but NO right to interfere.
As a Soldier and patriot, I agree. They should not enforce their beliefs physically, because though we disagree with the meaning/intent, I must agree they have that right to disagree peacefully. It's inflammatory, however, and must be considered capable of encourage that very reaction. Much wrong can come from that, including possibly inciting a mob reaction.
