Why wouldn't it have MNF?

Their site says you also have on-demand shows. You should be able to pause/resume or fast-forward/rewind that.

It has "select" on demand shows, not entire catalogs and not necessarily entire single seasons. You can see that in the video I posted. Fast forward and rewind functions are available on a channel by channel basis. Some yes, some no.

Looks like MNF will be limited to set top box only, no mobile devices.

I signed up for the free trial this past Saturday. So far, so good... I'm pretty sure in a couple of days I'm going to prepay 3 months then order my free Fire stick.

So when this all happens, I'm going to drop both Dish and my landline. Then I'll still have my attic antenna (~15 local channels), Netflix, and Sling. During football season I'll probably pick up the Sling sports pack.

hell no. i already pay for cable...

fios internet alone = ~$60 without tax
fios internet + tv (with espn, espn 2, csn, btn, nbc sports, and many other channels not sports related) = ~$85 without tax

it'd be stupid as hell to do that, unless you steal internet from a neighbor or something and espn is all you watch.

I've been trying out the Sling app on my Xbox One. It's flaky at best. I've been *trying* to watch the NCAA tournament on it. Not sure if it's a frame rate thing or what, but the video signal is just...off. Hurts my eyes. Plus any tickers across the bottom stutter terribly. That's the good news.

Bad news is that it crashes or stops buffering every 45 minutes or so and you need to reload the app. I've had it get so messed up that it just got into a loop trying to reopen itself that I had to shut my console down.

Not sure it's worth the headache for $20 a month once my month demo is up.

Like the concept. Not thrilled with the execution.

For the whole package it may be worth it to you, but no way would I value ESPN alone at anywhere near $20 per month. I'm not sure I'd even consider it the most valuable channel in that package.

Expect Comcast to increase Internet fees to consumers and justify it by their lost cable TV revenues and increased Internet bandwidth. Or else expect them to extort the content providers the same way they did with Netflix, by providing them with purposely bad peering.

Going to be interesting to see how it all shakes out over the next 5-10 years. I expect someone is going to figure out how to make an ass-load of money and TV viewing will get even more expensive for the average consumer.

Not sure if it has been mentioned yet, but I think what Google is doing or about to with Fiber TV will be the future, regarding advertising. With everyone moving to streaming, only some services will be ad free while others like ESPN will have personalized (based on information collected about you the viewer) and region-specific ads.

The Fire TV client is extremely solid for me. No problem and it's as smooth as navigating a regular cable box. It's the Windows client that I'm having problem with. If I choose to watch it full screen, sometimes it randomly pops up the navigating bar at the bottom, even when the mouse wasn't touched. It's so annoying, especially when you're watching a basketball game, that's where the score/stats are located.

Having said that, I did say earlier in this thread that I'd be subscribing for this in March for March Madness, and I did, but it turns out that I didn't even need it because all the NCAA tournament games (at least so far, after the first weekend) are streamed for free.

Pretty much the only reason I have cable is because of football so while this is, imho, too expensive I am still very interested. I only need it for half the year, it's cheaper than my cable bill by at least a third and I don't usually cancel my cable during the off-season unless they piss me off or jack up my bill.

Roughly $60/month for current cable works out to roughly $720 a year and that's not including the little bullshit fees they add on versus 6 months of streaming ESPN which would be $120 a year. $600 a year savings, despite it's high price for what you get, is a pretty substantial savings for me.

Yeah, for me to even get ESPN in HD lame ass Time Warner forces me to go with a tuner box for $10 a month. And that's on top of the $45 a month service fee they charge to get the station. So after taxes and smoke clear it's almost $60 a month for ESPN.

Sling is about $22 after taxes. $40 a month savings.

I have Sling TV; I got in on the free Fire Stick offer. I've not had any real video quality problems with Sling*, but it does look different than HD channels I get from my attic antenna. It's like the Sling video is visually darker, and the framerate does seem to be a little less than OTA. Overall I'd say the Sling quality isn't quite as good as OTA... I would say it is somewhere between DVD quality and true HD, which is good enough for me.

*Here's the BS part... I've had DSL from CenturyLink for several years. Up to the point that I cut the cord, I also had Dish and landline phone service from CenturyLink. Generally speaking, my DSL service has been pretty good... right up to the day that I cancelled Dish & the phone. Now my DSL throughput is still fast as ever, but the signal frequently drops for just a split second or two. The end result is that my DSL is fine for internet browsing, but not great for streaming. My paranoid, suspicious brain wonders if this isn't something CenturyLink is doing to try to drive me back to Dish. The joke will ultimately be on them, though: my community is getting FIOS this year.

Well actually I don't...

I do pay $10 a month for local channels though. Some of the local stations (Fox in particular) are 50 miles away and I can't get a good signal OTA for them. Worth the $10 to not have to fight rabbit ears. Plus I save $5 a month with the cable internet bill...so it's more like $5 a month for hassle free locals.

HBO Now starts next month for $1 less than my cable company charges...and there's a free 1-month trial.

At launch, it will be exclusive to Apple. I'm guessing exclusivity is just for 1-3 months. I know the Apple TV will have it. I'm also assuming iOS devices will have it (iPhone, iPad, iPod touch).

Does anyone know if "HBO Now" is just a service name and it will be accessed through HBO GO? Might be confusing if it's a separate app.

From what it looks like, HBO Now (and I can't access the actual HBO site at work) it is streaming service, with "live" access as they premiere shows. So, it is a combination of HBO Go and the HBO channel, but without the constant live watching of movies. So, basically, you can stream GoT as it airs, or anything previously aired at any time.

For what it's worth, HBO Now is $14.99 a month and the HBO service on my Comcast package is $20 a month. If you have an Apple TV (or are willing to wait), and don't watch the HBO airing of movies, this is the best way to get GoT and such.

As far as ESPN, I'd skip it. Mostly because they don't offer enough sports I watch. If the package included NBC Sports and a way to watch La Liga, I'd be more inclined to drop my provider for it.

I have been mostly happy with my sling tv service. I got in on the free roku stick deal and my only complaint is really the roku stick. Sling is quick quick and responsive on my nexus 7 and but i have to click and wait on the roku when moving to new channels. It takes 5ish seconds to load the guide info for each channel. It can get annoying sometimes. Makes me wish i had gotten the roku 3 or fire stick instead. But I already had a roku in another room so I figured I would stick with what i was familiar with.

I got the free Fire Stick from the Sling deal. I already had a Chromecast, so I was kind of skeptical that I would like the Fire Stick... but I love it. It is so much easier to use than Chromecast for general tv viewing.

I think HBO Now gives you EVERYTHING they have, just like a Netflix subscription would give you access to movies AND original shows. It's "over-the-top" television, so you can subscribe to HBO without involving your TV service provider at all.

At least, that's the impression I got when they revealed it at the recent Apple event.
