Listen up! If you'd ever spent a winter in North Dakota, you'd bee all-for global warming.
I spent 9 winters there!
I would spend the first half of the winter shoveling the car out and the second half trying to get it started!

that's just ignant

This movie and this thread are a joke.

global warming is no joke. Your kids wont see the future if global warming takes effect.

Last time I checked, MoveOn was a political organization. You think they should pay for people to go see The Omen instead? Wait, that's about the anti-christ, so it hits a little close to home too politically. The Shaggy Dog maybe...oh wait a minute, that reminded me of Bush too...Nacho Libre! That would be a good movie for them to pay for people to see!

If you are completely closed minded and only want to listen to the Gore side of the argument... do not follow that link. If you want to read a little about the other side of the argument... follow it please. One Inconvenient Truth that is in this movie is that a lot of the stuff, quoted and shown, happened or worsened, during the Clinton/Gore administation's watch.

Global warming may be happening, but it most certainly isn't caused by humans.

About the only good thing to come out of this movie is that it is getting people to come out from the other side of the debate. I really like how there is a very good correlation with global temps and sun spot activity and other naturally varying things. Someone even found a very strong link to Earth's changing magnetic fields and global warming (the magnetic field deflects less and less solar particles, cauing more cloud formation...).

What really gets me is that claim that as global warming continues, the "Gulf Pump" (or whatever) will supposedly shut down cooling things off. Well, if this cools things off and reverses global warming, wouldn't this be a self-correcting issue?

I didn't know what you were talking about till I viewed it in IE. Ugh. Ouch. The web looks so much better with Firefox and adblock. Much more pleasant. Bonus if you install the adblock Filterset.G updater.

But the free tickets to that stupid Jennifer Aniston movie last week wasn't?

Open your mind, you cannot just put your head in the sand. How this issue became political is beyond me.

No, it was too..I just didn't see the thread.

This issue is beyond just politics...though I believe that as long as politicians are corrupt (forever), GW will never be "resolved".

Edit: I still don't believe that anyone truly knows what is going on. Our understanding of the earth is still quite primitive, IMO.

But...but..I thought global warming was already present. Now I hear "if it takes effect then my kids won't see the future"?

I think this film will be the unintended comedy blockbuster of the year...

Global warming is another scare tactic communist wannabes pull out when it is clear capitalism has won the day. The ironic thing is, even if you believe in the junk science of global warming you would have to come to the conlusion the nation that is contributing the most while doing the least about the problem isn't the USA, but good ol' communist China.

Reading is fundamental. The OP says MySpace was paying for the tickets, not MoveOn.

If MoveOn paid for them, I'd be downright giddy-- let them waste their money on this laugher of a movie while they change noone's minds as they'd be preaching to the choir.

@MathMan

I find it funny that you link communism with environmentalism, since they have absoultely nothing to do with each other! Last time I checked communism was an ideology where the workers owned everything and shared things equally, etc... And environmentalism is a concern with the preservation of the natural environment, especially from human pollution, and the ethics and politics associated with this.

I love it when people lump all the things they see as evil into one word/idea in their twisted little minds! Next thing you know gay marriage is a communist plot to destroy the freemarket economy!

You are absolutly correct, but this thread will hang out here until it becomes a slugfest. I fail to understand why the mods will let someone who has 95% of their posts in Politics/Off Topic come to hot deals with an OBVIOUSLY POLITICAL thread and it not get locked.

Let a hot deals regular post a 'pro-right' thread and it will be locked the same day - possibly the same hour and rightfully so.

Politics do not belong in 'hot deals'. If I wanted to know about anantech's slant on a political issue, I'd wrap my head in duct tape and venture in to P&N or Off Topic.

Nuclear Testing is going to kill everyone, the hole in the ozone is going to kill everyone, acid rain is going to kill everyone, destruction of the rain forest is going to kill everyone, another ice age is going to kill everyone, etc. It gets old after a while.

Why worry about global warming, all our oil is going to run out in the 80's anyways. At least that's what the scare mongers said in the 70's.

LOL, nice list. The ozone hole is closing, acid rain (at least in the USA) is declining, and nuclear testing is nearly non-existant anymore (not that they were ever widespread in population centers to begin with).

Of all those things I'd say that the oil issue is the thing that we have to fear at all. Not that oil is going to suddenly run out, but that at some point supply won't be able to rise fast enough for demand (especially high demands from Asia), and ultimately start to decline as we reach the 50% depletion point (ala peak oil).

But global warming? Nahh... in 10 or 15 years we'll all look back at this and laugh. Same with the current hurricane cycle. Everyone keeps trying to link last year's storms with global warming, but it's just a natural cycle that lasts 10-30 years (and I think started in about 1995?). There have been stronger storms in the past, like during the last peak in the hurricane cycle (I don't remember the name, but it had 200+ MPG winds).
