the only word she knows is absolutely...
My grandson is 20. He uses it constantly.

She is the result of the brainwashing she received throughout her education to date. We really can't blame her. She's just regurgitating what she's been taught. Then, our institutions of higher learning further reinforce it. The world of academia is a world of progressive thoughts and teachings. Mostly feelings, little real useful knowledge.

She was taught nothing in this back and forth. If she got a glimmer of reality it will be sucked out of her head very quickly.

People like her are being churned out in droves. They are our future.

Kid is a idiot but right. Free collage education is a good idea and i bet one day when we stop trying to be the worlds police we can afford to take care of our own citizens.

She knows about as much about the economics of education as I know about faster than light travel.

I applaud the fact that she is getting involved. I just hope she is open to understanding faults in her argument.

For instance, if I say we can get FTL travel if we just x+y and a scientist tells me you couldn't possibly x+y, it would probably be in my best interest to find another argument unless I know why the scientist is wrong. Clearly, I would be over my head if I tried to argue with the scientist that I was right.

I don't think she is an idiot. I think she is idealistic and ignorant, but I think she is a smart girl. I think the purpose of the movement is good, but they need to be more realistic. This is a double sided issue. The costs need to come down for the students, but most of the problems are from the rising cost of education, not getting someone to pay your way. My mom left college with a masters degree with $10k in debt. Today that would likely be over $100k. That is 5x over inflation!

Republicans would rather keep their kids dumb than ask hedge fund managers to pay taxes at same rates everyone else pays.

I think this is the root of the problem. Only an asshole would want to say, "fuck the poor, they can help themselves". The problem happens when you say, "those rich bastards could afford to help", without knowing the math behind taxes.

I am all for doing net good, but so much of today is about throwing someone else's money at problems without worrying about the return on investment.

A $16 trillion & growing GDP, fiat money, fractional reserve banking, and a top .1% that owns as much as the bottom 90%. "How can we pay for it?" is not a serious question.

reduce military spending
raise taxes
close tax loopholes

There would be a glut of money if we could only manage to do those 3 things

If we have money for two wars we didn't need, we have money for free college.
If we have money for tax cuts that didn't help the economy, we have money for free college.
If we have money for a blank Medicare check to big pharma, we have money for free college.
Nothing bad will happen if we raise taxes at the top.
They have money to blow $100M on this:

If they have to pay more in taxes, maybe the bidding will only go up to $50M, but nothing will really change in real life.

Also, Republican economic policies are so discredited, they can only score points by debating college students on their own turfs and controlling the mike.

So are the teachers unpaid? How is it free if they get paid?

What do you think all of those things actually cost?

Just to speed this up, I agree that the wars, and the subsidies to big business are shit and should stop.

1.2 Trillion in debt. Cost of college went up about 18% or more over the last few years AFTER you adjust for inflation. You need to come up with a lot of money if you are going to just pay for the people going to college now. Factor in that many more would go if you make it free. So, you would likely need well over the initial 1.2 trillion.

To make general statements like that is the same as the R's simply saying we need to reduce taxes and not factoring in the programs they promote that cost money.

So, again, how would you pay for it, because the things you listed would not be enough.

How much is Medicare Part D ban on government negotiating drug prices costing us? Big Pharma is gouging the taxpayers so that one course of treatment can cost more than free college for one or two people.
How much are tax cuts at the top costing us? Estate tax cuts? Etc.
How much are we blowing on F35, which is looking like a dud?
We have money, and paying for free college is a good way to use it.
