@Russian yea I bought it during Black Friday for 350 after taxes. It's an Evga classified. Like I said I know the 1070 is better in most light but something about it keeps me from liking it granted my reason is somewhat weird I feel much better buying the 980ti. Probably it's because the 980ti is so praised and on the other had the 1080 price premium I feel is no longer worth it so I had to let it go. So my choice was mainly between the 980ti and 1080.

The performance of aib 980ti and 1070, even after both overclocked is too close to be noticeable in game. But 1070 do offer:
1) Multiple projections without performance loss and correct ratio for multiscreen 3d view.
2) Uses 100 watts less, available in compact form.
3) 2GB more VRAM
4) Much easier to resell when volta comes out. Can sell to folks which runs cheap PSU.

It's a bigger difference. 980Ti overclocked to 1450-1500mhz uses 350W or more. Some GTX1070 OC can use < 190W.

You can also mine Ethereum with GTX1070 but with 980Ti's power usage, it's a waste of time.

G1 980Ti is only 2% faster than 1070 Gaming at 1440p. At 1080p, they are tied. Without actual benchmarks, it won't be possible to tell the difference in games.

I don't get the hate for GTX1070 when it costs $350-370 and yet a reference GTX1080 that flew off the shelves and was defended and hyped to the moon on this forum is only 11% faster than an AIB 1070!

Hardware.fr shows 1080 FE beating 1070 AIB by only 12%. I am trying to understand how a $350-370 1070 is a failure but a $650-700 1080 FE that sold like hot cakes for months is constantly being overhyped. I keep reading on this very forum how GTX1080 beats GTX1070 by 30-35% in games but it's nowhere close to that. AIB 1080 is only about 19-23% faster than an AIB 1070.

Remember all those people who defended and recommend 780/780Ti over R9 290/290X? Oh the fun.

$700 780Ti is slower than a $400 R9 290 = aka R9 390, and equals RX 470 4GB in this game:
http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/watch_dog_2_pc_graphics_performance_benchmark_review,6.html

On November 2013, GTX780Ti cost $699. November 2016, RX 470 4GB is $150. 3GB of VRAM or not, 780Ti is a complete turd and will go down in history as one of the worst flagship GPUs ever made from AMD or NV. 780Ti was only good for 1 year until November-December 2014, after which point it got completely annihilated by R9 290/290X/390/390X in AAA games of 2015-2016. Out of 3 years that one expects to use a GPU, the 780Ti lasted just 1 year. The less is said about the $650 GTX780, the better. That card is now performing on par with a $299 R9 280X.

All this text really means nothing.

Lets explore the facts.
Any man with a job can/should be able to afford a high end, latest features, videocard each generation, or about every 2 years.

No one should have to buy a card and keep it for 4 or 5 years.
If they do, they are not a serious gamer or hobbyist.

I'll explain to you why people who keep there cards 3 or 4 or 5 years are not a serious hobbyist/gamers, and how to stay at the high end for $.75 a day, this is how its done.

Let me tell you a story. I'll call it "The story of $.75 and a video gamer"

Happpy medium surfs newegg in March of 2012 for a fast brand new video card. He was disappointed with the $500 gtx480 power hog his wife bought in March 2010. He has saved .75 a day for 2 years and saved $547.50 and sold his gtx480 to some sucker for $200. He has $747.50 in March 2012 to buy a brand new gtx680 that he read on Anandtech was "retaking the performance crown" ( http://www.anandtech.com/show/5699/nvidia-geforce-gtx-680-review ) So he pays the $500 for the gtx680 and he is happy knowing he can crank the settings with a card that has the latest features and is not a power hungry beast.
and he has $247.50 left over for his next card.

Well here it is only 14 months later he again reads on ANandtech that there is a new card, the gtx780, what they describe as "the new high end" ( http://www.anandtech.com/show/6973/nvidia-geforce-gtx-780-review ).
Well he has been saving his $.75 a day for the last 14 months ($315), has the $247.50 left over from last generation and has a buyer for his gtx680 for a real cheap $250. Now he has $812.50 but no gaming card. So he surfs over to Newegg and buys the best gtx780 he can get for $650. He again has high end performance and $162.50 left over for his next "high end" card.

October 28 2013, AMD has a new card called the 290x that was released 6 months after his gtx780 and is as fast or a bit faster but runs hot. Happy says no way am I buying the 290x, its only 4% faster than my card and costs $550!!!.

He reads of a $750 gtx780ti but he is happy with his performance, he just bought his new gtx780 card and still is @ 1080p resolution.

Now he has had his gtx780 for 16 months (Sept. 2014) and once again he was reading Anandtech about a new $550 low power superfast card called the gtx980. ( http://www.anandtech.com/show/8526/nvidia-geforce-gtx-980-review/14 ) He still has $162.50 left over from his last card, he sells his gtx780 for a cheap $250 and still has been saving his $.75 a day for the past 16 months ($360). Total money for a new card $772.50. He buys the gtx980 for $550.
He enjoys top notch performance once again and has $222 left over.

He hears of a new AMD card the 390x, it only sells for $429 but sees its not an upgrade from his card.
He also watches a gtx980ti card sell for $650 but is happy with his performance because he finds that the gtx980 overclocks like a champ.

Now 20 months after he bought his gtx980 a new card called the $650 gtx1080 comes out , its much faster than his gtx980 and he needs the extra power because his wife bought him a 1440p monitor for Christmas. Happy is moving up in the world.
He takes the $222 he had left over from the last purchase,he has been saving $.75 a day for 20 months ($450), and sells his gtx980 for a cheap $250.
He has $922 dollars for the $650 gtx1080. At 1440p resolution his gtx1080 serves him well he is happy and still has $272 in his pocket and will save $.75 a day for a new Volta card in about 18 months when he sells his gtx1080.

His cpu was a 2600k @ 4.6 for 5 years.
That's how you always play games at the high end for $.75 a day.

Now can we please stop the walls of text about how we paid too much for our cards now or 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 years ago?
Anyone!, even a 12 year old can save $.75 a day for a video card, and play at the high end. AND have money left over.

Why do I have a gtx960 4gb? because I game on a big 1080p TV 7 feet away, and I'm happy with the games I play at high settings 40 to 60 fps but I'm getting ready to upgrade soon. I just bought Deus x mankind and its killing my gpu.

I could have used the gtx670, gtx770, gtx970 and gtx1070 and had over $900 left over and to keep the thread ON TOPIC used it to buy another gtx1080 for sli, to play WATCHDOGS 2 at a good framerate @ 1440p .

That's what I did haha. Sold my i5 4440, b85 board, r9 290 and got myself i5 6600k, z170, hyper 212X, gtx 1070 all by adding another $554usd (with vat). Changing my truck's 4 tyres costs even more... (~720usd)

that's the spirit! good for you.
I think I'm leaning towards selling my gtx960 4gb for about $90 and doubling my performance with a gtx1060 for about $230. $230--$90= $140 out of pocket for 2x my current performance + 2gb more Vram..
I'll need the extra memory for Watchdogs 2.

RussianSensation : To reply u without adding alot of not needed text. First page : Grafik-Presets in Watch Dogs 2 – 1.920 × 1.080 , they show from low to max settings in 1080p for RX 480. The 39fps is from there under ultra.

And url to picture took from the site incase u cant find it.

Exactly why I want to move to the high end cycle. So I can just enjoy high end gaming and high end graphics since I mostly like gaming for graphics lol.

Yea, once you have a high end machine, it don't take much..................\\
I'm going to make a new thread, this is of topic.

Yessir I moved the sliders in precision x to 50 and the memory also and its crashing. Not sure what to do as it seems like none of my cards want to overclock

Which 980ti are you using? and what GPU clocks are you seeing in the game? Sometimes factory overclocked cards already have most of the extra performance squeeze out already.

980 ti classified. And that sucks since I heard all 980ti's could overclock well. Expectations shattered I guess.

while gaming check to see what the card is clocking.

If its a problem with all cards you have installed in your system, then it might be your psu or something else.

Do you have a buddy or another system to test it in?

Well it boosts 1430 and settle at 1405 once I raise the temp limit to 91 and power target to 115 and no I don't have a friend with a similar system to test it in. Cards always boost over guaranteed clocks though.

1405 is not bad, what were you expecting? most overclock to 1450 while gaming, Your missing 1 or 2 fps while gaming.

If you're stable at 1405 or anywhere near the 1400 mark that is very reasonable. Some of these higher clocks are people doing suicide runs in benchmarks. How high the 980ti can maintain its clock will of course depend on the game and application.

Of course, I do understand where you're coming from since you have a classified model the peace of mind makes sense

It's a bigger difference. 980Ti overclocked to 1450-1500mhz uses 350W or more. Some GTX1070 OC can use < 190W.

You can also mine Ethereum with GTX1070 but with 980Ti's power usage, it's a waste of time.

I keep reading on this very forum how GTX1080 beats GTX1070 by 30-35% in games but it's nowhere close to that. AIB 1080 is only about 19-23% faster than an AIB 1070.

Yikes! I'm done with 250 watt GPUs, it had been a bliss for me to switch over to 150watt gtx1070.
Been tough to sell my r9 290 to a market with 90% users thinking 550ti is the best thing and sporting crap psus

The i7 2600K should be compared to a i7 4970k or 6700k or 7700k not a plain i5 6600 NON K.

Almost 6 years after the release of the Core i7 2600K (January 2011) we were expecting a $230 CPU (Core i5 Skylake) to outperform the $320 Core i7 SandyBridge.

Not only that, but even Kabylake (January 2017) at $230 will still be slower than the 6 years older SandyBridge 2600K. And you brag about having a $120 Dual-Core in 2016 ?? We should have had Quad Cores at $150 and 6-Cores at $300 max two years ago.

Now dont get me wrong im sure you know alot about graphic cards, but you dont know it all. I to know alot you see and i actualy took the time to read it and from what u posted to what is reality is very far off. And no gamegpu is not great site, it's lazy at best.

I added the benchmarks i found into a spreadsheet for all to see and funny thing is the site u said pcgameshardware that favoured nvidia has the RX 480 at it's highest fps compared to all the other sites.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1FtVphRyUABwTwW1lxErDSI7PDjzR5K2os-VHcC9j8bo/edit?usp=sharing

Sorry for the way i quoted i might know alot about gpu, i do not know alot about forums and i dont act like i do, being humble comes along way in life.

The issue really is small testing period (20 seconds) in a single area.

Since different sites test in different areas (PCGH is driving a car, Guru3d used the starting area on foot / sneaking around, GameGPU's scene is running around with lots of shadows by houses near the water)

As I've shown before testing area can completely change the game results as different cards will handle different areas / scenarios differently. The video above from @RussianSensation showed (https://youtu.be/AIKm3882Zbk) even a 1080 can crawl down in the 20s depending on where you are looking or what part of the game you are in, while it will show 60+ in other areas (starting of video).

Thanks not sure if it driver related since latest drivers from nvidia have not been too good but I really anted to push it a bit further. 1070 prices on amazon have shot up again and buying from newegg is a no go since you cannot fully return the card. I'd rather pay sale tax. I'll just settle for this one still a wonderful card.

All 3 1070s I have can boost to 2060-2080mhz. 2080mhz is another 8% over 1924mhz. Either way, we already know that GTX1070 is one of the worst cut-down x70 cards ever made but you aren't considering the context. It's possible to buy almost 2x GTX1070s for the price of a single 980Ti a year ago. The fact that 980Ti @ 1500mhz beats a GTX1070 @ 2Ghz is largely irrelevant because someone buying a 2016 card can get GTX1070 SLI for $700-740, or purchase a single 1070 for $350-370 and have $300 left over from not spending it on a 980Ti in 2015.
Oh my bad! I misunderstood you. That's amazing then! Excellent 980Ti. Did you buy it in 2016?
Problem with pascal is that pascal dont scalling with frequency.I tested it with MY GTX1070.I tested 1500-2150Mhz and card stopped scalling at 1700-1800mhz.You can add whatever you want, but performance dont change much after that(its not in all games, but in most games gtx1070 dont get much from oc if its already running at 1924mhz)

You went that far from the benches from one game?

people are getting theirs to 1500 and higher so I wanted to try and get close to that number.

You might have to install a modded BIOS and give it some more voltage, but the difference between 1400 and 1500 MHz isn't game changing. On another note, IMO the GTX 1070 is the better overall card, but it's also very boring for overclockers; at least for now. I grabbed a used 980 Ti for cheap because I wanted to mess with modded Bioes and have some fun with overclocking. The scaling on this card is pretty amazing, better than most. I don't like to spend more than $300-$350 on a video card, that's why I've been buying used last gen High-end cards for quite some time. Their 3 year warranties are still intact by the time I resell, so I still get my warranty as long as it's MSI, EVGA, or anything serial based.
