Hi everyone, this is my system:

geforce 8800gtx 2000 mhz
qx6700
asus p5n32 680i
2gb ram dual channel corsair 800 mhz
hd sata 400gb 7200 rpm

Ill use this computer just for gaming and i plan to do a bit of overclocking on it, so im thinking of getting a water cooler...The problem is that im a total noob at water cooling and have no idea how to build one myself or how it works.

Im looking for a water cooling kit, which one you guys think would be nice for me?

Also, what would be a good case for it?

Thanks to everyone that can help me

I would suggest reading the stickies over at xtremesystems They have a lot of guides to just about every aspect of water cooling.

aigomorla also has a sticky here about it as well. Linky

These should give you a general idea of what will be needed to get started. Once you have that bit done you can either go kit or get the parts yourself. I would suggest hunting around in this thread here as it has a pretty sizable list of where you can get the pieces and parts or kits you want.

If you are going to get a kit don't go Thermaltake.

I'm also considering doing water cooling but I want to make my own water blocks so it will be a while before I can get into it. Working on designs right now for the CPU block.

lol i suggest you follow natepo's advice and learn what watercooling really is.

Its not something you want to just jump into out of bed.

After you looked and studied a bit:

Whats your budget?

Whats your object in cooling? is it OC? or Noise?

How many components do you want to water cool.

From there i can point you in either piecing you parts, to make a kit:

OR suggest a well rounded kit that would fit your need.

:]

hmmmm

dont watercool ram, and mosfets

Im going to have to piece this for you. There is no KIT that can handle the load of a QX + 8800GTX. Im sorry, that kind of load would even stress out that apex kit.

Your talking about ~230W on a moderately overclocked QX

+ 130-140W TDP on the GTX stock, if you oc, expect a slight increase in TDP

You require a system that needs tp do > 370W to see decient temps. Yikes.... Thermochills are raited effcient at 400W on a PA120.3

Sorry that radiator alone costs 140 dollars, and its not pieced in any kit.

so let me know your budget.

Im not overclocking it a lot, im just overclocking it to 3.2 or so, a pre-built water cooling kit of good quality cant handle that?

How much are you willing to spend on this??? If you cool just the CPU and GPU you are looking at about $250-$300 alone for a kit if not more. Here's a pretty decent kit link. It should be ok for what you are trying to do although I would probably switch out the GPU block for a complete coverage block like the EK full coverage block for the 8800GTX Link

I would also go for 1/2" tubing and barbs instead of the 7/16" stuff. I wouldn't get a premade kit myself. Though, they are good for guides on what you would need to get yourself.

im still amazed at how people think a 2.66 ->3.2ghz isnt a lot.

i think we all been spoiled by AMD X2 and C2D.

Sorry pal, that is concidered a lot. You require a voltage change of at least 1.35 to run that.

a prebuilt wont give you as good as custom. in fact it probably wouldnt do that well against the ultra 120 extreme, or ifx-14

If you want to cool it right with water, you need to follow my instructions, or you can just stay with air.

You try to piece a waterkit looking at C2D's you will not get the same performance. i have listed it above on why.

that wont work napo, that uses the swiftech 220 rad. That cant handle the load output of a GTX + QX. Sorry, i told you thats enough to bring up coolant levels 6-7C on a thermochill PA120.3.

And lets not get into details on which is better and why. Just trust me!

I'm looking to cool just my CPU QX6700, will the Swiftech H20-120 PREMIUM do the job.

It's a 120mm Radiator, my VGA cards will stay air cooled.

as i have said! A moderately overclocked QX will put out about 230W of heat.

The thermochill PA120.3 is raited somwehere 400W-500W efficently.

If im not mistaken a SWiftech QP 220 will be somewhere arround 300W.

Each time you guys get close to that load, your going to in essense raise your coolant temp 10C.

If you dont mind an idle at around 30 and load near 70's on a moderate overclock, then the apex will be fine.

Radiators work more efficiently at higher temps.

However, that apex kit is pretty much limited. And you couldnt enjoy an upgrade without overloading your rad.

Thermal throttling is above 65C, I used to have my E6400 at 80C and it was running at the full 2.13 Ghz. 56 C is a little high for liquid cooling, when you get there you probably should be looking for a better system.

Listen to Aigomorla, he knows what's going on.

budget, case.

Thats all i require.

Also what blocks you intend to cool with:

If you want this done correctly on a QX where you can enjoy ocing her to about 1.45V+ without hitting upper 70's i need to piece a low resistance, uber flow, setup for you.

Swiftech just wont do it unless you upgrade the radiator.

Budget = alot
Case = Mountain Mod i.e. I have enough room

I'd like to know;

Pump - very good one, heard the D5? Laing was good
Rad - Thermochill 120.3 seem to have a good reputation
Blocks - haven't a clue.

I need a couple of options for each bit.

wow. a lot eh? ~500??

radiator, you picked the best alright:

when i asked for blocks i ment, what you what to cool? cpu gpu?

Pump you have 2 options. IWAKI RD30, or a DDC-2 /w petra top.

follow my build on my U2-UFO

Front mount thermochill PA120.3

yate loon ds x 6 push pull config. It will fit

Cpu block. D-Tek Fusion

Reservoir : your choice in liking. You can use a bay, or a micro res by swiftech. Whatever your bling is. : Just stay away from aluminum. If you see the words aluminum, i dont care if its annodized or not, dont get it.

Pump: goto petrastechshop.com find the DDC+ / Petratech DDC-T01 top

Get everything layed out to 1/2ID barbs.

Then goto mcmaster.com and then search for 5195T76:

That is the generic tygon 2075 tubing. Its known to stay the clearest the longest, and have the best bend rate. Its kinda pricy at 1.69/ft tho. If your thinkn your going to play with your loop, then i would suggest masterkleer at a watercooling vendor at .49 /feet.

Its all in your bling. My UFO project, im gonna use expensive tubing, because i promised myself i wouldnt touch it after completion.

If you need some more info let me know.
