Hi. I just want to know what are the top picks for heatsink and water. from my research, most people recommend Zelman and Thermaltech (for heatsink). my cpu is at about 55-60c idle, so i think i need a better hsf than the stock. please give any recommendations. some i've looked at are:

If you have the money, go for a water system, make one yourself though, kits kinda suck for the money, if goign air, XP-120, or a copper Zalman

Like everyone is suggesting. If you have the money go for water. If not get a good HSF. XP-120 if your motherboard can fit it or the XP-90 both are great

XP-90 or SP-94 if your going air. Do your research if you plan to go water before you accidentally crap away your whole system.

in case water cooler for under $150

i'm still waiting for them to be in better circulation. i only found it at one place, and it was a lil high, considering the price range the reviews put it in {+-120}. the fact that everything goes in the case was a high point for me. plus, the led's look pretty cool.

Also if you deside to go with air cooling DO NOT go with thermal[/b]take. You want thermalright

What is wrong with themltake?

Their fans move HUGE amounts fair.

Yeah they are loud..that's why you get some fan controllers.

for a mild OC, Thermaltake Silent Boost K8 works fine. My 3000+ works fine at 2.2, and the only reason I can't go higher, is NP AGP /PCI lock. My temps never go over 45c.

they dont exactly make quality and reliable products. their power supplies suck and their cases are just butt ugly, and for a liquid cooling system, its better to get something more well known and used because many cheaper water cooling systems just plain suck. and you shouldnt get loud fans with water cooling. it kinda defeats taht purpose besides ridding of ambience.

If your CPU is stable, doing things like Prime95 Torture Test, your temps are not too high.

There's going to be diminishing return from any cooler replacement at this point except a high-end, loud water solution. The rest of your system outclasses the power supply, I'd put $$ towards that before any further attempts at using MORE power (assuming you want higher o'c).

"suck" is a relative term, but it may be a matter of parts with potential of drawing enough amps that power supply can't cope so well anymore, rails rapidly fluctuate as inductors field collapses and caps empty/recharge. Even so, if the system is working stabily as-is it might be better to just put all the funds towards the NEXT upgrade, or build a new box from scratch.

I can't guesstimate that the PSU is directly limiting overclock, but it is out of place and a liability based on value of other parts, even moreso the more power drawn. INsufficient power can have seemingly unrelated effects like ripple wearing out the mobo's power circuit caps, or it's own and as a result, other parts like HDD.

Fortron 530W are pretty nice, as are PC Power & Cooling.

Good water cooling? For 80$? hmm.. any second opinion on this?
Thanks for the advice Zebo, if a few more agree, i'll get it.
I don't mind spending a lil more if there is any other you would recommend.

High-end water will get you a 100-200MHz higher overclock than good air; and you'll only see those extra MHz if you are willing to use a lot of vcore.
Cheap watercooling won't perform any better than good air, and in some cases it will be worse.
So if you buy high-end watercooling keep in mind that price/performance wise, buying better parts with the money is more cost-effective. Watercooling is for people who like to build and maintain stuff. And once you buy the parts, you can use most of them on future systems. But usually you end up buying newer, better blocks, pumps, radiators, etc.
I used to be quite into watercooling. It was a lot of fun. But I went back to air (Thermalright XP120). I was able to buy an A64 by selling my old system and watercooling parts. It was totally worth it.

I think Zebo was just trying to make a point that if you are handy you can make a water cooling system for cheap. I don't know if you can get all the components he listed above at the price he stated (at your door) but a Dtek waterblock (whitewater) and eheim pumps are among the best. My heatercore was $35 at a local autoshop and tubing was around $10. You will most likely end up spending $20 for 2x 120mm fans. Also, Zebo seems to like a rez less system. I personally prefer a resevoire because it does give me more stable temperatures during load because more water is flowing around the system.

A reservoir doesn't actually give lower temps. What happens is, after a short while, the extra water in a res is heated up. For a res to give you lower temps it needs to be large enough and passively conductive enough for the water to never heat up. A size as large as 50 gallons burried deep in the ground has been tried, but even that heated up after 8 hours.
The value in a res is that it makes bleeding air out of the system faster. The disadvantage is extra cost, fitting it in the case and cheap ones leak.
