I would stick with the slk-900. It would cost 4 times as much to get a good watercooling system that would match this heatsink. The cheaper watercooling kits will not even match the performance of the slk-900.

Well if you plan on overclocking, but want to remain a decent level of noise: GET WATER! Do you research however, www.overclockers.com, forum.oc-forums.com, www.hardforum.com. Browse, search, and live on those places for a bit and you'll get the hang of it. It's actually pretty simple once you get the basics down.

Be sure to get quality parts, Some examples:

Dtek TC-4
Dtek ProCombo (Or any HEATERCORE style rad)
Clearflex, or Tygon Tubing
Ehiem pumps
etc..

Besides that its just having space in the case for a system. Pref. I'd go with 1/2'' but you can get a pretty damn good setup out of 3/8''.

Get the correct Alpha HS for your MB, a quiet fan, and "duct" the hot air out the side of your case.
That is the "Biggest Bang For Your Cooling Buck"! You won't get any quieter or better cooling for your $$ than that.

hmm...some say water, some say air...hmm....my current temps are around 50c to 55c and im not overclocked yet. i plan on oc'ing soon and thats why im asking. does anyone here have an slk900 that can give me some sort of differences it made for you? im curious to how well it cools. also interested in how much better water cooling is.

I am adamant that water is not needed. Look at my OC of 933Mhz; my cpu temp never goes over 45C with my slk-800 and I have a very quiet 36cfm fan on it. Infact, I can't even hear the cpu fan over the case fans.

My SLK-800 kept my 1600+ @ 1743 at 40C under load until I took off the YS-Tech variable speed fan and put a Panaflo L1A on. It went up to about 45C under load, sometimes more depending on room temp.

Good air cooling beat poor water cooling any day.
With water you've got to have volume.

I'm running a 1.85v 2100tbredB, cooled by an slk900 & a zm-f2 barely on (~5v)... cpu Temp never breaks 45C
Watercooling would only be worth it because of the fun involved in setting up something new.
There's a huge price difference in what it takes to install a 'reliable' watercooling setup compared to a slk800 or even an $20 ax7 (see review)
I just set up a computer with an ax7 & a 7v panaflo L1a cooling an athlon 1.4 (same heat output as a tbred b 2700+)
CPU temp rests at 50-51ºC running SOB.
One thing my slk900 will never do is leak fluids and destroy internal components.

I'm still debating to do this in my own new computer. Right now, as of this hour, I have decided to go water. I think I'll sacrifice the 3.06 to a 2.8 p4 ($200 price difference), and with those 200 dollars, buy a water cooling setup that'll look good and keep temps/noise down AND oc it to the 3.06 I wanted. .

The only issue now is weight and transport. I wonder if all that water will be a pain carrying around every week to go to LANs...but then again, I might add wheels to the case.

ok guys, thanx for all your replies. i think youve convinced me to stick with air cooling for now. i dont play to do any serious oc'ing anyway so the slk-8or900 should do the trick.
