Then get back to us.

So that's eXtreme systems? I guess I expected more considering the way some of you guys talk about it.

The stickies may not be much for an advance user like you. But, for a noob like me who is contemplating WC, the stickies are a great source of basic information, knowledge, and parts recommendation.

There is also the XS WC forum. It is frequented by the likes of Cathar (designer of the Storm waterblock), dacooltech (Cooltechnica owner), gabe (Swiftech owner) and Weapon (designer of custom high performance heater core radiators).

Stickies are stickies, and don't tend to change much from place to place. My issue is with the "this-is-my-house" sort of feel to the place.

to op: it seems you're quite fresh to hsf's/wc's in general (hence your selection of your current gigabyte); my advice to you:

1 - Read STICKY at Anandtech here above in the Cooling forum on Air HSF's
2 - Decide between SI120, Big Typhoon, and Ninja Scythe depending on your case space requirements and orientation
3 - Try to push down the voltage of your overclock as much as possible. Power = V x I, thus the less voltage you have the less heat from power dissapation you will give off

YOU DO NOT need a cheap WC setup like the ones you mentioned to get you to nominal (<50C) temps, especially at your OC levels. In my testing of TT Typhoon, XP90C, and Ninja Scythe, they all performed more than adequate as compared to a "basic" setup kit consisting of the Swiftech kits parts (120mm rad/6000block/350pump). Hell, I can get 40C dual primed loaded at 2.9GHz with the Typhoon, then undervolt the fans automatically for quietness when the need for absolute cooling isn't there.

I apologize for mis-interpreting your original comment.

The problem isn't water cooling or even air cooling effectivley on the cheap. The problem is doing it while at the same time getting great temps while overlcoking as far as reasonably possible. Yes, the cheaper solutions proposed can do both, but not at the same time in my opinion and real world experience.

There are lots of valid reasons for water-cooling. Leveraging an overclock is just one of those reasons.

Exactly, everything from running quieter to even extending the reliable life of components by keeping it cooler are very, very valid reasons to water cool.

Yup, a range of uses that's often forgotten in a rush towards justification.
