Which one of those is the best? Any other suggestions in that price range would be good too, my friend wants a kit, he doesnt want to pick out the individual parts, someone told him not to for warrenty reasons, w/e.

So basicly he wants a kit with everything in it, just needs to cool hic OC socket A setup, Im not sure what the specs are.

Thanks in advance.

vantec. has a AC hydor pump, though not the best pump, still better than all the other dinky dc ones included in those other kits

ok, i have a few questions about watercooling...
1. gotta be a little wary of the fact that you've got water inside the case... how safe is the whole idea of water cooling?
2. Is it quiet? i mean compared to fans?
3. Do you need a large case for it?

Also could you suggest a good company/site for buying a good compromise between cash and quality - how much am i gonna be looking at for this kinda thing??

I?ve only done two setups so I?m not an expert but Ill answer your questions best I can.

1. I put mine all together in my case, cut all the hoses to the right length, then took it out and let it run for a day, then carefully mounted it back into my case. Follow directions, don?t put any liquid in there that you shouldn?t.

2. It really depends on the kit you get or the parts you pick out, for the most part it is. I had 8 fans in one of my systems, with water-cooling I only have two now, much less noise, and its cooler.

3. Somewhat, also depends on what you get, if you don?t think your case is big enough you can get a radiator and reservoir that sits outside the case, but I would get a reservoir for a 5.25 bay, and get a radiator that mounts on the back of the case(If you don?t have room).

I'm not sure about the sites, I got all my parts from my ex girlfriends dads store. I?m sure someone else can help you find reputable online sites for your purchases.

Is the 185 GPH pump good enought that he could add another radiator later down the road?

the only kits worth buying are the swiftech ones..................

all of those are poor at best

I would recommend you read a couple of WC forums stickies

start with xtreme and extreme overclocking

and then decide what is best for you from an informed position

I would rather have good air cooling than a poor kit, as it is not worth form a hassle-benefit point of view

I love my WC setup, its great, reliable and quiet but its a custom system and costs more than any of those kits

1. It's as safe as you make it. Pay close attention to your barb and stay away from sheap parts. You'll be fine.

2. You can configure a water-cooler with extreme quiet in mind. It's all in the size of the rad you use and what fans (and what volts you feed them) you mount on it. If you're selective and don't mind spanking out a few $ you can also get fairly good performance from a quiet water-cooler.

3. In practice, yes, a large case will do you good. However, you can mount lots of the mechanics outside of a small case and get some fairly impressive results.

The last bit I can't help you with, FirenzeL. I try not to make compromises when it comes to water-cooling. High-quality parts just aren't THAT expensive, with me being a DINK and all. I spent maybe $600 for my last refit, and the results are sterling. Anyway, if you decide to get wet, good luck.

The best cooling kit your friend can get is a new motherboard and cpu. Water cooling a socket A cpu is a TOTAL waste of money. A high end kit will cost him the same amount as a 3000 Venice and a new motherboard. Those parts will run pleanty cool on air and a lot faster than any socket A cpu.

He uis planning on replacing it, but he wants to start leanering how to overclock and water cool on this setup, that way if anything breaks he is replacing it anyway.

It's still a waste. He will prolly need a new waterblock when he upgrades, which is another $50 poured down a hole. As for overclocking, all you can really do on a socket A is increase the FSB, so pretty much everything he learns won't apply to to A64 clocking.
I ran water cooling for a long time, it's a fun project, and has tons of bling factor, but the money I spent would have gotten me at least twice the performance had I spent it on new parts. Tell your friend to buy his new hardware, clock it as far as he can, then decide if water is the way to go.

btw, everything here is just my opinion. How your buddy spends his money is none of my concern, but I do want the both of you to have enough information to make a decision you'll be happy with. Good luck and fun!
