Did you write this or did someone else? Because it's impressive that Bama and Georgia can lose and the SEC still only has one bowl loss...

Did you read beyond the numbers?

SEC 5-1: The SEC still has Alabama, Auburn and Vanderbilt (against Houston) to play. But again, the SEC has been impressive.

So obviously doing the math... 5-2. The SEC still has Auburn and Vanderbilt... and Missouri (which wasn't in the email).

While we're on the subject of underachieving teams, how many 5 stars has UGA had in the past 5 years? They never do shit and usually have top 20 recruiting.ever.year.

I agree they do underachieve but they were a play away from playing for the national championship last year.

I guess technically they lost the national championship since we all know they would have steam rolled ND just as bad as Bama did. /ducks

Yeah, you may want to pause your circle jerk and actually look at records. For only the second time in 5 years Bama goes to a non-championship game and decides not to show up, and still only loses from a fumble on the last drive down by 1 score. Meanwhile this impressive Bignottwelve has Texas and Baylor go back to back in spectacular embarrassment.

did you even watch the game bro?

Texas hasn't pulled five star guys in years, since about '08 or '09. Mack Brown was always Mr. February, until he wasn't. Once he lost that he lost the main thing he brought to the table to win games. Texas has struggled for five years now and finally pulled the plug on a guy who admitted he put it on cruise control.

Texas has many distinct advantages in recruiting so the next guy should be able to turn things around pretty quickly. But the roster they are trotting out right now has many more three star guys than five star, and most of those rare five star guys are just getting a rating bump because Texas was going after them.

mack's problem is he can't evaluate qb talent for shit. he had to be begged to take vince. colt fell into his lap and was a 3 star that turned into the most accurate passer in collegiate history. mack was there 16 years and hasn't recruited a qb worth anything since colt 8 years ago. how can you go 8 years without getting someone in a state loaded with qb talent?

You know I did read it yet somehow my eyes glossed over it mentioning Alabama and only saw Auburn and Vanderbilt. I'm clearly not ready to be back to work from vacation yet. Wonder what my code must look like these last couple days.

Hard to separate evaluation and development. Chris Simms and Garret Gilbert were both really highly regarded, but neither were good college qbs. Were they overrated or just never developed?

Otoh, he could have had RGIII, Johnny Football, and probably Jameis Winston and Cam Newton over the last few years.

GG was overrated, that HS out there is a magnet for football. you get a bunch of kids that developed early and you've basically got a team full of ringers playing. good for winnning state championships but you don't really know the talent. also, the way the ratings services work is circular. greg davis (the former OC) did a bad job developing talent as well.

could have also had trevor knight, apparently.

I have no idea why Alabama tries to force the passing game so much to be honest, every time Henry ran the ball he got ~5 yards if not some crazy break away touchdown (keep in mind he's a freshman).

It was really bizarre to me that they moved away from Henry. He averaged 12.5 yards per carry in that game. Ride that guy til his legs fall off!

There is an article out today where Winston is saying that if Fisher leaves FSU for UT he would follow. Most interestingly, at the tail end of it, he says he looked up to Vince and wanted to go to UT, and TRIED to contact Mack Brown but couldn't. It sounds so similar to RGIII's story.

Look like Bama did not take OK seriously and got bitch slapped like they did with Utah in 2009 Sugar Bowl.

Give OK some credit, man. Alabama played as hard as it could. You really think that senior class wanted to go out with two straight losses?

SEC fans can sugar coat it all they want, but this year was a step back for the SEC.

LSU barely beats Iowa, a bad Big Ten team?

A&M barely gets by Duke, a team with limited talent?

Florida, a traditional SEC power, is a train wreck?

The national championship game is pretty huge for the SEC. If Auburn gets blown out.....

UT could have had its pick from almost any of the Big 12 QBs. They just repeatedly chose poorly.

Over the years they also had a shot at
Andy Dalton
Matthew Stafford
Christian Ponder
Ryan Tannehill
Andrew Luck
RGIII
Jonny Manziel

UT did recruit and make an offer to Griffen, but not as a QB. Same goes for Manziel, they recruited him as a DB but didn't end up giving him an offer. Out of that group only Stafford was recruited as a QB, and was given and offer for which he declined.

That said, Manziel was recruited to be a likely 3rd stringer for A&M. He just happened to blow the pants off of the competition and had a good coaching staff and a great QB coach. Basically almost everyone overlooked Griffen and Manziel(Manziel much more so). Hindsight is 20/20. Both Griffen and Manziel have preformed well above their recruiting evaluations, people forget they were 3 star/barely 3 star QB recruits in their respective classes. They wound up at their respective schools because other schools wanted them for other positions. That said Gibert was a 5 star bust. But yeah basically it is hard to evaluate high school QB talent, more so if said QB is on a overall talented team. Is it the QB? Or is it the team?
