I would suggest...not doing this. A few websites (Hardwarecanucks as well) mentioned that flashing a 79xx card with a R7/R8 BIOS will brick your card. They aren't forthcoming with reasons due to NDA but I wouldn't suggest messing w/ this.

I am pretty sure only the 290 and 290X will. The rest is just rebrands of old.

Am I reading this correct, looks like a 280X is a rebadged 7970GE? At $299 msrp that's not horrible, I would have liked a proper new card at that price though.

I believe it comes with the new audio solution as well. If you are into that sort of thing.

Eh, new audio + GE at a reduced price, I might end up going for one of these. I've never spent more than $300 on gfx so the 290 would have to be a pretty big improvement to sway me.

The new audio solution is only available on the R9 290, R9 290X, and R7 260X.

GHz edition is 1050 core, 1500 memory
280x according to this is 1070 core, 1600 memory

The 1000 core, 1425-1500 memory cards are 280-310 USD right now.

When I first saw R9 290 I thought they'd use R9 and then change the 290 depending on the card. But even the R9 changes, wth??

I was fine with the 3000, 4000, etc. Fairly straight forward I thought. This baffles me.

I think next gen is going to be R9 390, R9 380 etc.
If not its not making any sense. I'm thinking this is the same as A10,A6,i5,i7 and so on.
