Should make people jump all over the 7000 series, if true. Seems out of line, but so does $1000 for Titan and $650 for the 780. Remember neither of those are even top bin chips. They are both salvaged dies.

I think it can be safe to say that 290X will more or less be a niche product from here on out, assuming it takes the single GPU crown, thereby making Titan pretty much obsolete given that Titan is far more expensive than 290X.

In other words, the real pricing war happens at sub-780/290 levels. Everything that isn't a 290X/290 in AMD's stack should have good perf/$ (which isn't a surprise considering they are more or less rebadges), but now that there's pressure at the high-end, nVidia prices will come down.

It's a win-win, so long as 290X nabs the single GPU crown and remains in the $600-$700 price range.

I believe the ROPs are fully decoupled from the memory controllers now. Looks like they are doing a 1CU:4ROPs ratio. 11 CUs with 256 SIMDs/ALUs per each gives us 2816 ALUs.

Looks like some people who pre-ordered the r9 290X are already getting theirs.

Now that i see the specs again, ROPs cannot be 44. If they are not Decoupled then they are 64. If they are decoupled they are 32 or 40 or 48 and so on. I would bet on 48.

My specs would be 12 CUs, 3072 Radeon Cores with 192 TMUs and 512bit memory with 48 ROPs.

Actually the 290X doesn't have 11 CUs, it has 44 CUs, which are probably arranged into 11 CU arrays (at least if it is similar to Tahiti*)

*the 4 CUs per CU array only goes for Tahiti. Pit Cairn, Cape Verde and Bonaire has a mix of 4 and 3 CUs per array.

Quite possible since additional parts are often implemented
for redundancy purpose since it must be quite difficult to have
a significant number of chips with zero defect given the die size.

Well until Tahiti, they always had the ROPs coupled to the Memory channels. Are the Radeon core count correct at 2816 for the 290X ??
