How many GPU launches have you followed

Enough to know better than to expect AMD to do anything any different than any other company once they get into a market position that affords them the ability to charge more for their product.

I'm not knocking them, just so many people clamor over Nvidia for their pricing and then point to AMD as if AMD would do no different if they could.

Now, if only AMD price it reasonable around $500 and then I would be truly impressed. $600 and its just "meh".

It would be interesting to know why you think that AMD should set up price of R9 290X to 50 percent of Titan's if those cards perform equally or Radeon is even slightly faster?

Btw, 500 dollars it's less than debut price of HD 7970 (549).

To force Nvidia to lower prices on GTX780 to $550 so we can get it cheaper. 75% of people in this thread are not interested in 290X performance, but the impact on nvidia pricing...

QFT...even at the 7970 launch...most of the outrage was from people that wanted cheap nVidia cards lol.

Wow, $729. Well, if the card is faster than the Titan I suppose it's completely warranted. Still though, it's probably only 10% faster than a 7970 at 1.3GHz. Again, if it doesn't overclock like a beast that's a poor return on that investment.

If I was running the show at AMD I would release it at $700 just because of Nvidia's prices. I would let that price ride until the Mantle update for BF4 in December. Then I would wait for the Mantle reviews to come out and gauge sales from that point moving on to decide the final price.

I can give you two reasons right off the top of my head that won't even go into anything that's argumentative like drivers, sli/crossfire, etc. that usually erupts into a circus of opinions.
1) The Titan is not really the flagship performance part from nVidia any longer in anything but name unless you just must go 4 way SLI. There are multiple 780's on the market that outperform the Titan.
2) Past history has shown AMD can only sell well while commanding a price premium when it clearly outperforms it's nVidia equivalent. Usually this is only the case when AMD is a generation ahead of nVidia (7970 vs. 580, 5870 vs. 280). Why do you think the fire sale of 7xxx parts started shortly after the arrival of the 680/670 even though for the most part they were fairly well matched. It goes without saying, when most of your fanbase is made up of the price/value crowd, you're going to need to be priced better to move units.

Now that's not to say they can't surprise us with a world beater such as the 9700Pro, in such a case all of this goes right out the window. I'm just not counting on it. The above is also why I think the 4xxx generation was the best from AMD in memory. Truly great performance with pricing right from the start that punched nVidia in the gut. It catered to their core audience.

The prices didn't bother me when I was younger but they do now. $600 isn't attractive to me anymore. I lean toward getting two cards at about 350-400ea. For 7-800 you get a lot more power, but $1200 is a no go for something that loses value so fast.

I personally would match the price of the 780 @ $649 for the BF4 Bundle since it is faster than a stock 780. Then, once the pre-orders sell out go with the original $599 price because anything less would be a rip off to those who bought the BF4 Bundle.

75%?

Where did that number come from exactly?

80% of all statistics are made up on the spot.

And 65% of all assumptions are wrong!

Anyway, I don't think they can sell for more than an custom OC GTX 780, even if it's faster. And I don't think the prices we see now has anything to do with the launch prices, certainly not the Swedish ones.

Lol @ tag. Just noticed

I have a 670 but I'm interested in the AMD release. Where does that put those statistics you're gathering?

@ $700 it's not gonna happen. $600 is a possibility and at $550 I'm staring at my wallet to use the force to get out the credit card.

Well, with mantle it could be a way larger lead (or not)? We have no idea what it will bring, so the pricing may be conservative for the lead it may have, particularly once mantle hits.

I personally think $600+ is to much.

If I where to buy this card I would ignore Mantle for now. But since it's probably to expensive to me I will instead reevaluate it once Mantle has been released and I know more of the potential.
Maybe Mantle will make my 7970 adequate for a while longer.

Nice, pretty excited to get my hands on one. Won't be doing anything extreme with it, but it'll probably be going under water

So if it soundly beats the Titan, that means the goals have shifted to stock price / financials, right? Watch it happen.

That said, the inner skeptic in me says: who is this guy? At xtremesystems?
