If it is kept under 80C under the most intense loads that will be very impressive to me (with the small radiator).

Since they already state that AIB's are free to customize it I expect an MSI 240mm model which can actually be overclocked and kept reasonably cool (under throttling).

They're going to allow custom cards? Cool, I didn't see that!

I'd be very surprised if they passed 70C. My guess 62-68 depending on workload.

How long ti'll the reviews are out?

I should rephrase it to "rumors indicate".

Whether they do and what they do remains to be seen since it's probably not a wide selling card especially if it costs much more then 2 290x's. I just expect MSI to step up (because I like them).

Sapphire? They should be able to take the 7990 Atomic they showed last summer out of mothballs and use the cooler.

2: A Radeon 295X2 is significantly cooler under load than even a single GTX 780 Ti. Nvidia has very efficient air cooling, but the cards still operate at a max temperature of about 84 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, the 295X2 doesn’t crest above 60 degrees Celsius while under heavy load. And gone are the days of your 7990 blowing hot exhaust back into your chassis — with an assist from Asetek, AMD got the thermals right.

Spectacular, this is how a top of the line card should be cooled.

That ASUS ARES II design works so well and again on an OC dual Hawaii it delivers.

Interestingly:

"“We won’t make the same thermal mistakes again.” An AMD executive uttered this promise — and did so quite passionately — to me weeks ago, way before whispering a word about the Radeon 295X2 to the press. We were discussing the company’s Hawaii GPU reference boards, their noisy cooling solutions, and the reliable but white-hot operating temperatures. I took the statement on faith."

Somebody forgot to tell the HPC guys, because their 9100 uses the same crap reference design on a $3999 card, insanity.

Also..

"The winner of Batman: Arkham Origins goes to Nvidia, though AMD does an admirable job of coming close even with PhysX set to High."

What?

"I didn’t have time to measure power consumption in a meaningful way, but even on paper I can tell you this is one area Nvidia will continue to dominate. The 295X2 can siphon up to 500W of juice"

And SLI 780 Ti uses much less?

This author is funny. I get a sense reading that article, that he heavily prefers NV ecosystem but still cannot help being mighty impressed with the R295 X2.

This card is beating dual 780ti in synthetics too. Titan Z just looks totally ridiculous, the few benchmarks that have been released so far are all lean nvidia and AMD is winning all of them.

So the 295X2 not only runs quietly, it also runs pretty cool. Two things some people were convinced could not possibly happen. It even looks like there's room to OC the 295x2 with the stock fan.

Should be a monster of a card for only 1/2 the price of a Titan Z.

Still too much for my blood, though

Edit - Launches April 21st.

Initial results look good so far. Zero throttle on overnight Unigine loop makes cooler look up to the task.

Safe to say its the most powerful mITX friendly gpu to date....With a careful case selection a person could have serious power in a small footprint.

Read the reviews in both Anandtech and Tom's Hardware. Really impressive card. My hat is of to Asetek for keeping the card at @71C on full load. I noted that AMD engineers lowered the throttle point to 75C so overclocking is unlikely. Seriously, why would you want to overclock this?

Since I have a custom water cooled rig, I would buy 2 R9 290Xs, the waterblocks and overclock them. The cost is $600 per card and $110 per block so for about the same price you could run a pair of watercooled 290xs in CF and be able to be faster.

However, I am impressed that AMD could bring such a powerful solution to the table for @$1500. Kudos for a job well done.

Undervolt this sheet

Haha hopefully it would still be able to OC without that extra juice I am sure it would do temps even better though if stable.

Looke like it's a bit more efficient/quieter cooler than in R9 290x/290, however I agree with you: they should use something better in expensive professional card like FirePro W9100.

You could put a 2nd 120mm fan on for push/pull and gain room for OC. Or just change the 120mm fan into something better with more static pressure and CFM. Flexible!

Also:

Hard to believe we're getting near 60 FPS from a single card in BF4 64 player MP AT 4K res WITH 4x MSAA. Seriously chew on that a bit. Ground breaking.

Agreed on a 2nd fan. Especially if running full out for a period of time.

4+1+1 phases is bad for OC.

Yeah, I doubt he card has much room considering the 75c limit put in place. I would like to see some VRM temps as well. Good looking and performing card. You know Nvidia is going to want their crown back... Not sure the Titan-Z will do that for them...? Maybe continuing with driver improvements?

If TitanZ comes with Good Power Limits(software and principally PCB/phases) on it, some crazy guy will release a mod that undo all safety protections of the reference card.

This is 25x16 test of 1018Mhz 295x2(295x2 Max) vs GTX 780Ti locked at 1020Mhz(780Ti SLI MAX)

("Max" means 100% fans + max power limit + max temp limit)

With the two cards(The hypothetical TitanZ and 295x2) locked at 1020Mhz, Computerbase test is showing Dual 780Tis will be 6% faster in their test.

Its like clock per clock 780Ti is 6% faster than 290x.

Good info. If what is bolded above is true, then the Titan Z would have very little problem regaining the crown.

How will they do that when they're running at gimped clocks with cut down dies? They can't fit two full-speed full-core 780Ti's in an air cooled card, 3 slots or not.

At 2560x1600.

Do we know the clocks speeds? Also, the Titan-Z is not cut down?

But TitanZ will be probably TDP constrained, no?

The review is about 1020Mhz dual Full GK110(780Ti) vs 1020Mhz Dual Full Hawaii(290x).

8Tflops indicate is cut down GK110. See DGLee review in a topic here to get the results.
