The reason for this is simple: Our friends at [H]ard|OCP chose to enter these three races too, after getting a little bored of the weak competition they get from Team China in the first two races. Will they do us a favor and stay out of S#C 2017DecCancerFight? *

In "Dec 2017 By-points All-projects", we are at 80 % of Decrypthon, the team in front of us (up from 78 % on Saturday). Though with 5.8 M points on Sunday, Decrypthon still exceeded our daily production (5.5 M points).

In "Dec 2017 By-results All-projects", we are at 96 % of Decrypthon (up from 92 % on Saturday). They returned 11,421 results on Sunday, we had 15,246 results. We should overtake them soon, as we were only 5,088 results short of them by Sunday night.

I have got 697 tasks (47 pages) pending validation. It's half MCM which is quorum=2, and half projects which are quorum=1 normally but quorum=2 occasionally for spot checks. But in the last few days I am up to 7,000...8,000 tasks completed per day. So, less than 10 % of a day's worth of tasks pending validation is OK.

Ah, that explains it, lol. You'd think for mostly superficial points they'd come up with the same point system at least.

In "Dec 2017 By-points All-projects", we are still not on track to catch up with team Decrypthon. They are steadily producing ~5.8 M points/day, we were at 5.4 M points/day on Monday.

(Personally, I am only at ~80 % of my minimum daily production during the WCG Birthday challenge in November. I have 10 cores = 20 threads less at my disposal currently. Additionally, the credits/hour of the project mix that I am working at now are evidently lower than during November; I haven't checked precisely.)

In "Dec 2017 By-results All-projects", we are 3,273 results behind Decrypthon (down from 5,088 on Sunday). The Monday production was 11,819 results from them versus 13,634 results from us. Could take anything between 1 day or 1 week to overtake them...

Thanks for the stats Stefan. I'll stick all of my CPU resources to WCG till the challenge end.
As for MIP related problem that I had few days ago, it turns out that even though it needed more than 3 hrs to crunch, it still had roughly the same pph with MCM. But I still ditch MIP because I think we only need MCM and other shorter duration sub projects for the competition.

It no longer looks like that. Our WCG production took a real nosedive now due to the F@H race. The distance between us and the next team in this particular race widened on this day as far as we managed to narrow it on the previous two or three days.

I've changed my mind (again) and will keep cpu on WCG...and adding a few older systems (20 threads).

Also I will be switching to some shorter duration tasks after a few milestones are passed on some sub-projects.

For the time being, I leave my dual-socket PCs on F@H. My single-socket PCs have their CPUs at WCG, but I will test how well the largest one would do at F@H (22C/44T, but 3C put aside to serve its 3 GPUs). It's likely that I keep that at WCG too; a F@H CPU slot only makes sense with lots of threads available to it. (Unless you literally have a hundred servers, and don't need to pay the power bill.)

I stopped wasting my CPU resources on F@H a while back. 44T setup should do fairly well, but not as well as a GPU using the same power draw. IIRC, around a year ago my 48 core rigs were doing around 250k PPD depending on the projects.. but my 980Ti GPUs were doing around 1M PPD and consumed less power.

Normally I wouldn't run F@H on CPUs either. But we have... a situation.

Right now I get (per estimated PPD, which should be reasonably close to actual PPD)...

... 1.7 M PPD for ~1.3 kW from 4 CPU slots on dual-socket hosts (Broadwell-EP),
... 5.2 M PPD for ~1.3 kW from 5 GPU slots (Pascal).​

So, it's 1:3 in points/Joule on this particular hardware. Single-socket Broadwell-EP must be worse, due to nonlinear F@H credits.

Edit,
the top producer of our F@H opponents runs ~12 M PPD on 100 CPU slots. Power draw must be mind blowing. It's neither his hardware, nor his power bill.

Yeah that's what I am talking about. Basically the same power draw but the GPUs get a crap ton more points. However, you all are in a competition with F@H right? So I can kind of understand that.

I don't want to do such things even in a competition, considering costs and environmental impact. But it's a close race. And the sort of CPU slots that I bring compare pretty well to some older GPUs. And our carbon footprint must still be a magnitude better than our opponents'. (See the edit to my previous post.)
