WD 160gig HD $90@CC w/ PCI Controller card

Microcenter has the drive for $169 - $70 Mfr MIR= $99

Circuit City screwed me out of $20 when they claimed that they pricematch AFTER rebate prices.
So in this case, this will work.

$199.99 - $99 = $100.99
10% of $100.99 is $10.10 (rounded from $10.099)

$199.99 - $99 - $10.10 = $90.89

The drive at Circuit City has the PCI Controller card with it.

Microcenter's rebate is all month long, so there is no rush to get it.

Both products seem to be in the same type of box...both has the 8MB cache, 7200RPM.
Both products have the same model number: WD1600JBRTL

note: this price of $90 is out the door...no rebates no nothing...
and yes, CC will take into account Mfr Rebates...they did with the WD 120gig HD when i was trying to get it.
They had the drive for $180 - $80 mfr MIR - $20 cc MIR = $80, and OM had the drive for $140 - $80 mfr MIR = $60. CC claimed that because the AR prices differed by $20 ($80 and $60) that the PM was for $20, where i was claiming that the before rebate price was $40...they only gave me $20 on the PM.

It is a YMMV...my CC does NOT pricematch rebates of any kind. Wish I lived closer to one that did.

on a side: the CC i would do this at if i decide i want this hard drive is the one at the Plymouth Meeting Mall in Conshohocken, PA.

No prob...I'm definitely not worried about it, just kinda sucks that my CC people are pains about pming. It'd be nice to use my CC Card every now and then for some of this stuff.

YMMV on the after rebate pricematching. If they did this all the time, it would be easy to double dip when CC has their own rebate.

thats EXACTLY what CC said to me with the 120gig drive i was PMing back in June.

They said if they DIDNT take into account rebates to make final prices in which to PM, then you could in theory PM and use CC's rebates, making them lose money. And i was like...to myself of course...thats the point jack@ss. They gave me every reason in the book so that i could only get a $20 PM as opposed to the $40 PM.

edit: and because they said that im going to try this deal when i get a chance in the next month, as this deal is all month long. And if the lady at the desk does not give me the deal, im going to speak to the manager ASAP.

I pricematched the FAR $70-$70 MIR DV Edit Pro 1394 card to compusa at CC. Knocked the price down to $33.00, and I can send the rebates in too!! Gotta love the silly CSR!

Hmm... I'm going to try this out... order online... instore pickup using ebates for 2% back, put on Discover card for another 1% back, and then I'm going to get the CSR to pricematch at pickup... I'll spread the word on my results...

Just called Ford City CC, Chicago, and they said they'd do the pricematch. They even said i could get online and show them the ad from there, if i couldn't print it out

They said they'll pm to the after-rebate price at microcenter, no problems, verified that the item was in stock. They also seemed to know about this one, and knew immediately what i was talking about and that the pm was to microcenter, so i'm assuming someone's got in on this before.

Does that mean this might vanish soon?

I plan to be there in about half an hour, so i'll post back with results. Thanks for the deal...about 57 cents per G, no rebates, not bad.

Don't even try this at the Grant Road, Mountain View, CA branch - they are total bitc*es there about pricematching.

I just tried this as I was there anyway, and they said "we can match the $169" but I was like "erm, but then I can't get the rebate and you're supposed to give another 10% off...." and didn't get anywhere.

I hate that branch - they wouldn't even PM the Toy'R'Us AOTC DVD offer when that was going.

Edit - just phoned around - neither do San Mateo or Stevens Creak, San Jose, so I don't know what you guys are smoking, but this just doesn't look possible in Bay Area at least

Hmmm...i suppose this deal depends on having a microcenter handy.

Incidentally, the store i called said they always pm to after-rebate prices. One way of doing this deal then might be to call up CC, speak to a manager, and tell them that you've heard from other stores that they pm to after-rebate prices. If i can, i'll post back with the name of a csr willing to confirm this, since that might help.

Could you order this online, and then call in to pm? That might work better than trying it in-store, if you have crabby csr's?

Update: I got shafted. They told me on the phone they would pm it with no problems, i even had them look it up on the Mcenter website, and they said it was cool

In store, one person told me they pm after rebate, but never to microcenter. The assistant manager said they pm, but not after rebate, and not to mcenter. The manager said they pm, but not to mcenter, but yes AR. The assistant manager said after this that he would pm to microcenter if it was a 10 or 20 dollar price difference, but not for one this big.

Said microcenter was an online only store. Pointed out that there's one in chicago, retail. Then he said they can't pm to microcenter, after looking up the mcenter price on microcenter's website, because it wasn't a sale price (!!!) but just an online advertisement, and hence didn't count.

They're full of it. I'm calling corporate on Monday and leaving an extremely long complaint, but this deal is dead for the Ford City CC, for sure. I'm wishing i had the name of the csr i spoke to in the morning who said it would be no problem (this was a CSR *at* that store) so i could throttle her, but i don't.

Good luck, guys. I just wasted three hours of driving and talking to CC morons.

Found a CC next to the microcenter in chicago...on ellston ave, off fullerton. Called, once again was told it would work fine, and they would pm to the after-rebate price. Will try again, and see if persistance pays off...

I just got back after driving to the Kildeer, IL and Vernon Hills, IL CC's, and neither would pricematch to MicroCenter. I brought printouts of the MicroCenter price and the rebate form. The guy at the first CC told me the printout looked like MicroCenter was selling it for $169 *after* rebate. Yeah, right. The argument to defeat his faulty reasoning didn't take long. Then he told me that he could only match to an "advertised" price. Again, that didn't take long to shoot down since I had the printout with me. Finally, he said they simply wouldn't be able to match that price, but they would match $169... I politely said "no thanks" and left. The second store was much more to-the-point, and said they really couldn't match down to $99.

Oh well, it was worth a try. The MicroCenter price is still pretty good, I may buy it from them.

No go for me PM to CC. Got the drive at MicroCenter (Westmont, IL) and a copy of the ad. Drove to CC at Countryside, IL and pretty sales rep told me that manager will PM only to $159.99 (same as MicroCenter) at $40 off. No current $70 MIR with CC. They wouldn't PM after rebate price. :disgust:

Remembered that there is a CC and MC at Elston St, Chicago, IL next to each other. I'll try my luck there ASAP.

Final price for the 160GB at MC.

$169 + 6.75% tax = $180.41 - $70 MIR + $.37 stamp = $110.78 or $0.69/GB. Not bad, since it includes a Ultra ATA Contoller Card valued at $50.
