Not true - you can RETURN computer equipment up to 6 months after purchase date. After that ORIGINAL MANUFACTURERS WARRANTY applies. If this is retail drive then you should get at least 1 year .
Yo2, I had hoped you were right, but unfortunately that was not the case.
I bought this WD4000KD-00AB0 from Costco, installed it and everything was fine. I then decided to register the drive with WD. I bought the drive on June 26, 2006. The WD warranty expires on October 16, 2006.
I am completely mystified as I thought that WD gives at least 1 year of warranty to new drives. I also found out that that the KD series is called first generation SATA at the WD web site when you register.
The drive is OK as mentioned before, but I wonder if I would be better off with a Seagate. I have had Maxtor with no problem whatsoever, but may be I was just lucky.
